Other mistake: Sgt. Carter is a Gunnery Sgt. yet the show just calls him sgt. The proper address would be "Gunnery Sgt." or "Gunny".
Continuity mistake: The length of Sgt. Carter's career in the Marines varies from 14 years to 18 years.
Other mistake: Private Gilbert "Duke" Slater's name is not on the back of his USMC sweatshirt like the other Marines. On the back of sweatshirt is the name Estin HP not Slater G. (00:17:00)
Continuity mistake: The Marine Captain is showing Gomer Pyle how to salute. When she salutes she has a watch on her right wrist, but when she is shown holding the salute the watch is not on her wrist.
Gomer and the Dragon Lady - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: Sgt. Carter and two buddies are drinking beer in mugs. The "Dragon Lady" flips a man - he hits the table and knocks over a beer bottle and a beer mug on to the floor. When Sgt. Carter and his buddies go back to sit at the table all three beer bottles and mugs with beer are back on the table. (00:06:00 - 00:07:00)
A Date for the Colonel's Daughter - S1-E10
Other mistake: The Colonel has his officer insignia on his shirt collar with a tie during the day while at the office. Later at home, he is in full uniform with tie and jacket, and he doesn't have his officer insignia on his shirt collar. (00:01:00 - 00:11:00)
My Buddy, the War Hero - S1-E25
Continuity mistake: Jimbo, Sgt. Carter's buddy breaks a chair in two with a Karate chop. Jumbo prepares to chop the chair with his right hand. When the chair is shown being chopped it is done with the left hand. (00:08:00)
My Buddy, the War Hero - S1-E25
Continuity mistake: When the chair is karate chopped in the closeup it is completely broken. In the next full frame shot the chair is shown just without the seat. (00:08:00)
My Buddy, the War Hero - S1-E25
Factual error: Gunnery Sgt Jim Mason "Jimbo" only has rifle marksmanship badge and no pistol marksmanship badge on his uniform. As a Marine senior non-commissioned officer he should have both on his uniform like Gunnery Sgt. Carter. (00:21:00)
Factual error: Sgt. Carter is wearing a plain belt buckle with his dress blues uniform. Since Sgt. Carter is Gunnery Sgt, he is a staff NCO so his buckle should have the USMC emblem on the buckle. (00:24:00)
Supply Sergeants Never Die - S2-E6
Continuity mistake: The Supply Sergeant Singer's second shirt button is buttoned as he approaches the counter, but as he continues around the counter it's not, then it's buttoned up again. (00:25:00)
Sergeant Carter Dates a Pyle - S2-E20
Other mistake: Private Duke Slater's utility uniform shirt is different from the other Marines. Duke's uniform has square pocket flaps with the button exposed, an exposed button front shirt and the sleeves do not have button cuffs. The other Marines' uniforms have tapered pocket flaps with a hidden button, a hidden button front shirt and the sleeves have button cuffs. (00:05:00 - 00:06:00)
Sergeant Carter Dates a Pyle - S2-E20
Factual error: U.S. marine utility uniforms have the Marine Corp Emblem and USMC printed in black ink on the left shirt pocket. Private Duke Slater's uniform does not have it printed on his left pocket. His uniform also doesn't have the proper pocket flaps. (00:07:00)
Suggested correction: The EGA's were stenciled iron-on's from a company called Ken Nolan. Their use was optional.
When were they optional? They weren't the first 5 years I was in prior to changing to name tapes in the early 90's.
They were optional when I was in from 1967 to 1970.
Nope. Marine order c-52178 states they must be marked.
Continuity mistake: While Gomer shows a little girl how to play jacks with sugar cubes, the number of sugar cubes go from 4 to 6 while the girl plays. (00:10:00)
How to Succeed in Farming Without Really Trying - S3-E6
Revealing mistake: When the patroon is policing the area, raking and sweeping, they are not really raking or sweeping. They are just going through the motions but the rake and brooms are not touching the ground. (00:06:00 - 00:07:00)
Other mistake: Gomer volunteers for a 7 day parachute training. The training is held at a base at Sand Point, which is was an actual base outside of Seattle, WA. Gomer's original base is Camp Henderson, which is suppose to be in Southern California. At last minute, Sgt. Carter drives twice in a jeep to visit Gomer at Sand Point. The drive would have been at least 1300 miles one way. There is no possible way Sgt. Carter could have made the trip twice. (00:14:00)
Continuity mistake: Sgt. Carter's second button down on his shirt is unbuttoned. In the same sequence of Sgt. Carter talking with Gomer, the button is done up. (00:03:00 - 00:04:00)

Gomer and the Queen of Burlesque - S4-E21
Factual error: Gomer is a Private First Class and has one stripe. In his utility uniform Gomer doesn't have metal rank insignia on his collar. All Marines wear their rank on their utility uniforms. (00:06:00)
Gomer and the Queen of Burlesque - S4-E21
Continuity mistake: Gomer is on a date - they come out of the movie theater and it's dark. Back at the base after his date Gomer runs into Sgt. Hacker, and it's daylight and the sun is shining. After their brief conversation Gomer tells Sgt. Hacker good night. (00:07:00 - 00:08:00)
Suggested correction: In the Marine Corps, a Gunnery Sgt. may be referred to as Sgt, Gunnery Sgt, or Gunny. All Sgt's. are just that, Sgt's. Thus, a Staff Sgt, Gunnery Sgt, Master Sgt, Sgt. Major etc, may all be called Sgt's. Though Master Sgt's and Sgt. Majors are often referred to as "Top" and Sgt. Major.
Well, while it is technically correct that an E-5 - E-9 are all types of sergeant, and MIGHT be referred to as Sergeant, it would be really disrespectful to call a GySgt "Sergeant" all the time.
