Plot hole: At the end, when Vala and Mitchell activate the Stargate home, SG-1 is delayed in being able to step through because they are detained. However, the whole time they're detained by the gate, there's no radio transmission from SGC. Later we find out they're coming home early, so on SGC's side, they just had an unscheduled off world activation and would know it's from the planet SG-1 is on, and they would radio for an update. None of that was done so the conversation could happen.

Daniel Jackson: I'm an archaeologist.
Aris Boch: I know. But you're also a doctor.
Daniel Jackson: Of archaeology.
Aris Boch: Never mind. Captain, you must have some medical training.
Samantha Carter: Actually, I'm a major now.
Aris Boch: Oh, well, how very important. I'll inform the galaxy.

Answer: While the series was undeniably successful, filming it is a long process, taking many months of often long days. Anderson, after several years of doing this, wished to spend more time with his young daughter, who he felt he was neglecting, and requested that his role in the series be scaled back. Ultimately, he decided to leave the main cast altogether and only make occasional guest appearances.
