Continuity mistake: While Lorelai and Rory are at Luke's for a very early breakfast, when Miss Patty walks in she's wearing long earrings, but the earrings vanish and then reappear while she's telling Lorelai how badly she feels about Rory and Dean. (00:13:15)
Continuity mistake: Kirk introduces himself as "Mick" in the second episode. From episode 3 and throughout the series his name is "Kirk."
Continuity mistake: When Lorelai and Luke are in Luke's Diner to choose the color for the walls, Luke turns around the 'closed'-sign on the door. In this shot the venetian blind at the door is quite messed-up; partly closed, partly opened. In the following shot, where all the people are standing outside Luke's Diner looking through the windows, the venetian blind is orderly and completely opened.
Continuity mistake: In the first scene when Dean brings pizza and they are discussing about Donna Reed, in one shot Lorelai is opening the pizza box and she and Rory take a piece and start eating while they are talking. In the following shot, the piece of pizza in Lorelai's hand is gone and Rory takes a piece from the box - you can see that the pizza is complete again.
Kill Me Now - S1-E3
Continuity mistake: Richard and Emily speak of his mother as if she were dead, but she comes to visit several times later in the series.
Continuity mistake: Kirk did not know who Miss Patty was. He said "I wasn't aware that you were THE Miss Patty." Later in the series, in Episode 5 of Season 6, at Miss Patty's Grand Recital, Miss Patty introduces Kirk's performance and says that he was "a talented pupil of mine". His performance was titled, "20 Years Ago Today", therefore Kirk was a student and should have known who Miss Patty was all along.
Continuity mistake: After Rory is walking with Dean, it goes to a shot of Rory and Lorelai eating at Luke's Diner from outside. Rory is wearing a light blue sweater and Lorelai has a black shirt on. Then it goes inside the diner and Rory is wearing a dark bluish/grey sweater and Lorelai is wearing a purple shirt. The first exterior shot is used from the very last scene of the episode. (00:27:05)
Continuity mistake: In S1E3 "Kill Me Now" when Babette tells Lorelai that Cinnamon is stuck under the porch again, she refers to Cinnamon as "him", but in this episode Babette talks about Cinnamon being female.
Continuity mistake: When Lorelai and Max are on the porch talking about whether or not Max can go in, there are a few snowflakes on Lorelai's hat which disappear and reappear while they're talking.
The Lorelais' First Day at Chilton - S1-E2
Continuity mistake: Luke uses a red screwdriver trying to get something out of the toaster and leaves the screwdriver in the toaster while he goes to get coffee. When it cuts back to Lorelai, the screwdriver is on the counter, beside the toaster. (00:18:20)
Continuity mistake: During the town meeting, when Harry is talking about the Battle of Stars Hollow, in the shots facing Harry his hat is sitting on the top edge of the lectern, but in the shots from over Harry's shoulder the hat is sitting on the lectern's inner shelf. (00:01:15)
Continuity mistake: When Babette walks through the kitchen's back door to comfort Rory, the porch is visible with its lattice wall and doorknob is to the right, but when Lorelai walks out with Babette in the exterior shot the wall has changed and the doorknob is to the left. The exterior shot looks like the area outside the side living room door, not the kitchen door. (00:19:00)
Continuity mistake: After Dean kisses Rory the second time, when Rory joins Lorelai in her bedroom the lamp sits atop a simple rectangular box to the left of the bed, but in the following shots there's a round table with a pretty table topper and frames, etc. beside the bed. (00:42:00)
Continuity mistake: The appearance of the Gilmore mansion is very different in this episode than in following episodes. Here there are steps leading up to the front door, but none in later episodes, and the area people park their cars changes significantly as well.
Continuity mistake: In the opening scene Lorelai crosses the street to Luke's which is in the middle of the block instead of on the corner of the block.
Continuity mistake: In the shot where Lorelai and Rory are in Luke's diner, after Lorelai moves her burger in front of her, the plate changes positions several times between shots.
Continuity mistake: In the opening scene, and all episode, Luke's diner is considerably smaller than the rest of the series. He has a shelf with random hardware and fishing items that is a window the remainder of the series.
Love, Daisies and Troubadours - S1-E21
Continuity mistake: When Lorelai tries to remember the name of the guy who used to run the auto-body shop, she opens the kitchen's back door in the interior shot, but in the next exterior shot Lorelai is walking out of the side living room door, with the window beside it. (00:06:15)
Continuity mistake: At Luke's, when Rachel shows Lorelai the photo of the Dragonfly Inn, Rachel says, "It's an old abandoned inn I ran across when I was exploring the other day." So Rachel took the photograph in the last few days, and in the photo the Dragonfly does not have shutters, and does not have a sign hanging over the porch, etc. When Lorelai visits the Dragonfly with Rachel and then with Rory, the shutters and sign have appeared, as well as other changes. (00:04:50 - 00:40:20)
Continuity mistake: At the start, during dinner things on the sideboard move between wideshots and closeups of Rory. Fun to note: when Emily gets up and follows Richard to his seat, as Emily shouts to Siri that Mr. Gilmore is hungry, the camera pans a bit to the left and a water bottle (it's gone in Rory's closeups) has been placed on the sideboard, beside the sterling bud vase, which would cause Emily to have a fit. Obviously one of the actors or the crew left it there.
Suggested correction: That's exactly the point of the scene. Kirk knew that her name was "Miss Patty" but he didn't know she was THE "Miss Patty" about whom everyone was speaking.
They also refer multiple times to Kirk growing up in Stars Hollow. He would have known. In Stars Hollow, there couldn't ever be another "Miss Patty." That's just not how they roll.
