Designated Survivor

Show generally

Corrected entry: At the beginning of the show the name South Carroll Parish, Louisiana appears to indicate where the opening scene is happening. South Carroll Parish does not exist. It has to be either East or West.

WilliamLindseyParker

Correction: The show makes up place names all the time, such as for foreign countries that don't exist in real life. There's no reason they can't make up a county name too.

What you said is another correction that needs to be pointed out. Louisiana does not have counties, they have parishes. That is why they called it South Carroll "Parish."

Two Ships - S2-E6

Corrected entry: When President Kirkman is speaking to the 'Lieutenant' of the crashed ship, he promotes him to Captain. However, the Lieutenant is already wearing the lapel badge of a Captain before promotion. (00:02:00 - 00:05:00)

Correction: Navy lieutenants wear two bars. They are equivalent to Army Captains. However the ship commander is not necessarily a captain. In the Navy a captain is the equivalent to a full Colonel.

Correction: He doesn't call her Anne; he calls her "Em," short for Emily. He does this consistently throughout the series.

The Interrogation - S1-E6

Corrected entry: Emily is entering the office to pick up Tom and Aaron for the dinner, she's wearing a black dress and her hair is pinned up. In a following scene, when Emily and Aaron are talking to MacLeish, Emily is suddenly wearing a blazer and her hairstyle is completely different. (00:02:10 - 00:04:35)

Correction: Her hairstyle is exactly the same, pinned up. And she's not wearing a blazer, just a thin shrug, which would be easy to put on given the time they had.

Brace for Impact - S1-E21

Continuity mistake: When Agent Wells drives the van filled with bombs out of the parking structure both back doors of the van are open revealing the bombs, in the next shot both doors are closed.

Tom Kirkman: What do you want me to do, General, declare war? Why not. 40 minutes ago, they showed me the nuclear football. I guess I've had it long enough to try it out.

Season 1 generally

Question: If there were two designated survivors (Kirkman and Hookstraten) then why was it decided so quickly that Kirkman would be president instead of Hookstraten?

The_Iceman

Answer: The line of succession is VP, Speaker, President Pro Tempore, then the Cabinet Secretaries in the order the department was created. If none is qualified, then the Chief Justice or senior member if no Chief or Chief is ineligible or declines, acts as POTUS until either the House chooses a new Speaker or the Senate chooses a new Pro Tempore, whichever is first.

Answer: While both parties picked a designated survivor, only Kirkman was a cabinet member and in line for succession. Hookstraten was the Majority Whip leader for the House of Representatives and not in line for succession. She would only have become president if something happened to Kirkman.
