Trivia: John Astin (Gomez), Carolyn Jones (Morticia) and Ted Cassidy (Lurch) are the only actors to appear in all 64 episodes of the show.
Trivia: Originally, Lurch was supposed to remain mute for the entire show. In the pilot, when the bell is first rung to summon Lurch, Ted Cassidy ad-libbed the line, "You rang?" This caused everybody to burst into laughter and from then on Lurch would talk.
Trivia: Although it was kept a secret for years, the part of Thing was performed by Ted Cassidy. He sometimes had to travel to the studio to do it, even if Lurch wasn't in the episode. Though in a few episodes, where both Lurch and Thing appeared in the same shot, assistant director Jack Voglin performed the part of Thing.
Trivia: Although everybody knows all of the Addams Family members' names, none of them had their now-familiar names when Charles Addams created them for the New Yorker magazine. It was when the idea was pitched to the television executives that the names were created. Coincidentally, the Addams Family and The Munsters debuted the same week, and were cancelled the same week two years later.
Trivia: Ted Cassidy (Lurch) was an accomplished organist, but only mimed playing the Harpsichord. Also, before he was Lurch, Ted was a weatherman.
Trivia: Producer Nat Perrin created the voice of Cousin Itt by reciting gibberish into a tape recorder and then playing it back at a higher speed.
Trivia: In this episode, as Gomez begs Fester to kill him, Fester says "You're my favorite nephew." In the first Addams Family movie (1991), we hear that Fester and Gomez are brothers.
The Addams Family Goes to School - S1-E1
Trivia: This is the only episode where the real house used for the exterior is seen. Also, the wrought iron fence is seen to not go all the way around the property.
Trivia: Throughout the various television treatments and feature films over many decades, the Addams Family storyline frequently concerned the family's fabulous and mysterious fortune, which was always the target of nefarious (and doomed) flim-flam schemes. However, it was almost never explained how the Addams Family obtained their incredible riches. In this episode from the original TV series, Gomez and Morticia finally revealed the diverse sources of their wealth: Gomez cites his mango plantation, "Mangoes Incorporated"; his Mozambique crocodile farm, "Crocodiles Unlimited"; his Himalayan tapioca mines on Mount Everest, "Tapioca Limited"; and Morticia additionally mentions "Amalgamated Swamp" and his buzzard farm.
The Addams Family Tree - S1-E5
Trivia: In the quick cut scene, Thing comes out and grabs the mail from the letter carrier. This is a re-use of the scene from the pilot episode "The Addams Family Goes to School."
Chosen answer: Being that this was filmed in a TV studio, the set would have been specially designed and built to accommodate Cassidy's height. Also, I live in an older house (100 years-old), and all the inner and outer doors are eight feet tall.
