Jane Aubrey: You ever gotten your heart broken?
Billy Chapel: Yeah. When we lost the pennant in '87.
Jane Aubrey: What if my face was all scraped off and I was totally disfigured and had no arms and legs and I was completely paralyzed. Would you still love me?
Billy Chapel: No. But we could still be friends.
Billy Chapel: I don't know if I have anything left.
Gus Sinski: You just throw whatever you got, whatever's left. The boys are all here for you. We're gonna be awesome for you right now.
Jane Aubrey: All I've got is my toothbrush and a bathing suit I bought at the airport. You're not smiling. You're annoyed. I'm an idiot.
Billy Chapel: No, I'm an idiot. Jane, listen to me. No matter what happens in the next five minutes l want you to know that when I opened this door l was so happy to see you that my heart leapt. It leapt in my chest.
Jane Aubrey: Do you lose very much?
Billy Chapel: I lose. I've lost 134 times.
Jane Aubrey: You count them?
Billy Chapel: We count everything.
Tow Truck Driver: After Billy has invited Jane to a game and she demurs, "Hell, Billy, if she won't, I'll go."
Billy Chapel: Looks at Jane, smiles. "Don't let that happen."
Jane Aubrey: It's never quite how you play it in your head.
Billy Chapel: What about the whole deal thing?
Jane Aubrey: What deal?
Billy Chapel: You know, you do what you do, I do what I do.
Jane Aubrey: You believed that? I was lying. I was trying to be the man. And I was doing a damn good job of it until you invited me down here. You were right. I was afraid. I was afraid you were gonna break my heart into 1,000 pieces.
Ben Randall: Class 5506, will you come find me if I am lost?
Cadets: Yes, Senior Chief.
Ben Randall: Will you come save me if I am drowning?
Cadets: Yes, Senior Chief.
Ben Randall: I believe you would.
Jake Fischer: What's your real number?
Ben Randall: 22.
Jake Fischer: 22? That's not bad. It's not 200 but.
Ben Randall: 22 is the number of people I lost, Jake. The only number I kept track of.
Jake Fischer: How do you choose who to save?
Ben Randall: I swim as fast and as hard as I can, for as long as I can. And the sea takes the rest.
Pilot Mitchell: We're low on fuel. The rulebook says we cut our losses. What do you think, Ben?
Ben Randall: When we go home, they die.
Jake Fischer: You're going to kick me out for defending the Coast Guard?
Ben Randall: The Coast Guard has been around for 200 years. I doubt a couple of knuckleheads like yourself are going to defend it.
Ben Randall: There will come a time when you have to decide who lives and who dies.
Ben Randall: Save the ones you can Jake. The rest, you've got to let go.
Jake Fischer: Does this mean you're not going to fail me.
Ben Randall: For what? Backing up a buddy at a bar? Then I've got to bigger problems than you.
Capt. Frank Larson: Ben, come in. You work fast. Lyons? He was one of our top candidates.
Ben Randall: Sometimes you gotta shoot a hostage.
Jack Skinner: Look, we all know that you're a... legend and all, but our program has been proven to work.
Al Harrison: Here at NASA we all pee the same color.
Jonathan Kent: You're the answer, son. You're the answer to "are we alone in the universe."
Clark Kent: Can't I just... Keep pretending I'm your son?
Jonathan Kent: You ARE my son. And I have to believe that you were sent here for a reason. And even if it takes the rest of your life, you owe it to yourself to find out what that reason is.
Jim White: So, do you guys get paid by the hour?
David Diaz: No, the field.
