Corrected entry: At the harbour Pippin shouldn't be wearing a leaf pin, as he dropped his to help Aragon and the others to track him and Merry.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: When Theoden forbids Merry to go to war with the Rohirrim, Merry is with his white pony. In the wider shot of Merry watching Theoden ride off, his pony suddenly disappears. (01:50:10)
Correction: When Theoden rides away from Merry, in the next shot as Merry turns to look at Theoden, note that the pony is several feet behind the Hobbit, as it turns away to its right. It then cuts to a shot of Theoden, Eomer and others riding off. It isn't until the third shot that we see Merry standing towards the right of the screen without the pony. There is enough time between the first and third shots for the pony to simply walk away from the commotion of all the riders.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: The parting of Merry and Pippin takes place within two or three days after the Isengard battle. In the aftermath of Isengard they find one barrel each filled with pipeweed, yet when Merry says goodbye to Pippin all that is left is a small pouch. There is no way they could have smoked all that pipe weed in just a few days; it was month's worth.
Correction: Pipe weed from the Shire was lauded to be the best, and most coveted, so quite realistically Merry and Pip shared their good fortune with Gandalf (even Saruman confirms Gandalf's desire in FOTR), Gimli, Aragorn and the rest. Aside from that, those two Halflings could indeed have smoked non-stop after having gone without for a long time; Hobbits are known for their predilection for the pipe weed.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: In the Tower of Cirith Ungol, Gorbag is shoved down the entrance hole by Shagrat, causing the orc fights below, yet later we see that Gorbag, not Shagrat, is again in the room with Frodo, to be stabbed by Sam.
Correction: Yes, Gorbag is pushed down below and Shagrat bellows, "The scum tried to knife me, kill him," causing the melee which results in the other Orcs dying, except for the intended Gorbag; and in a lovely twist of irony it is Gorbag that returns up to the tower threatening Frodo, who Sam then kills.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: In the extended version, when Pippin is searching for Merry after the battle of the Pelennor fields, he finds Merry's elven cloak. However, Merry is wearing the cloak when Pippin finds him.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: During the movie, Pippin is wearing his Elven cloak with the brooch. This doesn't make any sense, because in The Two Towers, he left his brooch as a clue for Aragorn when Pippin and Merry had been taken captive by the Uruks.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: How in the world did Sam rip the ring off Frodo even though he was covered with webs, pick up his sword that was far away from him, find a hiding space and run deeply into it in the four seconds or so that he had before the orcs came? Another thing is that hobbits are not very fast as they have very short legs and are fat, and Sam had pots and pans with him which would have made lots of noise if he was running quickly, and we hear nothing.
Correction: All Sam needs to do to get to the chain is reach with one finger between the web and Frodo's neck, pull out a bit of chain and unclasp it, very quick and simple to do. From the time Sam hears the Orcs, to the moment of their arrival, is longer than "four seconds", as it is not necessary (and very deliberate) to show Sam's (who is indeed quite fast on his Hobbit feet) actions onscreen - so the viewers would see and hear nothing. (The point is made in the films that despite Hobbit size, they are rather quick and nimble.)

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: In the scene where Frodo, Sam and Smeagol crawl past the dead city of Minas Morgul, a huge green ray of light issues from the top of the tower, followed by a zillion and a half orcs marching out. In the shot where Gandalf and Pippin are watching this event from Minas Tirith, the green beam appears to be on the right (our right) of Orodruin (Mt. Doom) erupting. However, check out Tolkien's maps of Middle Earth and you will see that, from Minas Tirith, the green beam should be on the left of Orodruin.
Correction: When looking at the map of Middle Earth, Minas Tirith, Osgiliath, and Minas Morgul are, from west to east, on the same line of latitude, and Mount Doom is northeast of Minas Morgul. When Gandalf and Pippin stand in Minas Tirith, facing Osgiliath, beyond it lies the Mountains of Shadow (Ephel Dúath) and within that mountain range, directly behind Osgiliath, is Minas Morgul, where the green beacon is emitted from. While still facing the same way, to the left of Minas Morgul, farther in the distance is Mount Doom (Orodruin). The scene with Gandalf and Pippin is geographically correct.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: In the Paths of the Dead, Aragorn is leading with a torch in his hand. However, when the King of the Dead challenges him, he holds his sword in both hands - the torch is missing.
Correction: In the wide shot just prior to when the King of the Dead says, "The way is shut. Now you must die.", the huge gorge is visible right behind Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, as Aragorn holds the torch in this last shot where it is visible. Then there are 2 shots of the King of the dead, 1 shot of Legolas and 1 of Gimli, before Aragorn walks forward. If Aragorn throws the torch to the side during these 4 shots and it's then kicked into the gorge by the menacing Army of the Dead, in one of the many shots where the ground isn't visible before the Army of the Dead disappear, it is quite plausible. If Aragorn throws the torch behind him, directly into the gorge during the 4 shots, it's also perfectly plausible, as there is plenty of time for either to occur.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: In the Tower of Cirith Ungol when Frodo is lying without his shirt, while they go through his clothing, he has spider web in his hair. A short while later when Sam comes to rescue him, there is no spider web in his hair at all, and his hands are still bound so he couldn't have removed it.
Correction: Frodo has web on his face and hair as Shagrat and Gorbag fight. Then it cuts to many shots of the fighting amongst the Uruks and Orcs, followed by all of Sam's shots. Since Frodo's hands are bound at his wrists, in front of him, it gives him the mobility to actually reach up and wipe away the annoying web from his face and much of it from his hair. There certainly is enough time for Frodo to do this.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: When Frodo has been captured and is lying on the floor, you can see Frodo's boxers. They have a white elastic band at the top, with black writing along the edge.
Correction: There is neither an elastic waistband nor is there is any black writing visible on the undergarment. As Frodo moves and takes deep breaths the material does not move as an elastic band and the drawstring is visible in some shots. In an enlarged screenshot the undergarment is clearly regular white material that has shadowed creases at the waist. It is simply Hobbit underwear.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: When Legolas is hanging on the Mumakil, he cuts the ropes that are holding the saddle quite far down. But when he is pulled up you can see that they are cut far above, directly where the saddle ends.
Correction: The set of ropes that Legolas cuts are looped into circular openings at the base of the Haradrim tower. Once the rope is cut it snakes loose quickly due to the load that it holds, so as the tower falls the rope is no longer there. All that is visible is the tower and its base.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: In Minas Tirith, when Legolas appeared at the door of the room Frodo rested in, his collar was open. (Check the close-up shot of Legolas.) But when he was inside with the other fellowship members, his collar was fastened. (02:52:10)
Correction: As Legolas walks in after Gimli, the top clasp on Legolas' high collar IS fastened - it is about 6 inches down from the top of the collar. The top corners of the collar material are merely angled out a bit in this shot. Then, it is after 2 shots of Frodo and 2 shots of Aragorn that Legolas is in the wide shot with everyone and the corners of the collar are straighter, which only required a flick of the finger.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: Eomer shoots an arrow at an Oliphaunt. In the first shot, front view, it is missing nearly its entire right tusk (it shows a bloody stump). In the shot from the rear view, it has an intact right tusk as it falls. (This scene occurs immediately after the one in which Eowyn & Merry charge at, hack at, and down an Oliphaunt).
Correction: In the side back shot, only the two small bottom tusks, the long top left tusk and the Mumak's trunk (which may be mistaken for the long right tusk in the quick shot) is clearly seen. We do not see the long right tusk on the other side of the trunk, as it is a short stump.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: When Théoden is knocked under his horse by the Witch-King, it's obvious that the Fell Beast is attacking so Théoden is looking down at him, with the horse's legs pointing at the Fell Beast, yet after Éowyn destroys the Witch-King and Théoden passes away, we see a wide-shot of the whole scene. Éowyn's discarded helmet and the remains of the Witch-King are positioned at Théoden's head rather than feet. The attack all took part below Théoden, so how did everything shift to above his.
Correction: Wrong. After Theoden dies, there is a wide shot of the area and the helmet near Theoden's head is his (use zoom if necessary) not Eowyn's. Plus the Witch King's remains are not near Theoden's head in this shot either.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: In the shot where Frodo is hanging in Shelobs web struggling to escape you can tell that he has shoes on.
Correction: No, he is not wearing shoes. It is the outline of the ankle straps for the attached stunt wire, which is already noted.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: On the DVD, in the scene where Gandalf is driving the carriage (with Frodo and Bilbo on board), in the zoomed out shot you can see four hobbits riding on ponies. There should only be three. Since Frodo is in the carriage, that would only leave Sam, Merry, and Pippen. These are the only hobbits going along, since they are the only ones at the harbor.
Correction: In the overhead shot, we hear Frodo's voiceover as Gandalf arrives in the wagon, and all four Hobbits are on the ponies. It then cuts to Gandalf's close-up. Next is a long shot, as we hear Bilbo's voiceover say, "Tell me again, lad, where are we going," and the four ponies have only three riders, one of the ponies is riderless, with Frodo inside the wagon with Bilbo. Use zoom, it is very clear.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: As Legolas walks along the top of the oliphant about to fire three arrows into its head, he draws his three arrows twice, once before and once after the camera change.
Correction: No. In the close-up his face twists up in anger at the Mumak and draws the first arrow. In the next shot from above, as he walks on top of the animal he places that arrow into his left hand and draws two more from behind, then puts the three together at the bow.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: In the scene where Sam and Frodo are on the rock surrounded by lava on the side of Mount Doom, and have finished talking about the Shire and so on, Frodo's left hand comes up to comfort Sam just before the scene cuts away to the next. When it does you see his whole finger in the shot, none of it missing, no blood or anything like that.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Corrected entry: How did Shelob's sting get through Frodo if he was wearing his mithril vest? Its obvious he wasn't stung higher or lower than where the vest was. The scar we later see is too large for the stinger to be small enough to have slipped between the links of the vest.
Correction: The scar from Shelob's sting is around the area of the neckline of the Mithril coat.

Correction: In The Two Towers, Aragorn found and picked up Pippin's brooch, then he says, "Not idly do the leaves of Lórien fall." So Aragorn returned Pippin's Lórien brooch when finally reunited.
