Continuity mistake: When Monk comes home (after being at Steve's house) and starts to pet the dog, the dog sits down. But in one shot she's suddenly standing and wagging her tail, but then back to sitting in the next shot.

Mr. Monk Makes the Playoffs - S7-E13
Other mistake: At the end when Bob Costas is signing off, the mic is in his right hand with the window on his right). When it switches to Natalie watching the upside down TV, the image on the screen is a flipped image (so that the mic is in his left hand and window is on his left). The broadcast wouldn't be a flipped (or mirrored) image than what we see, otherwise, everything the viewer is watching would be backwards (like the writing and numbers).

Monk (2002)
Mr. Monk Paints His Masterpiece - S6-E14
Character mistake: While the concept of the knife height and stab wound is OK, the way Monk measures the height of the knife is way off. He says it's 48", which is 4 record lengths, but he doesn't put the bottom of the record where the top previously was, sometimes he only moves it half way up. Then the top of the record is above the knife, so it couldn't be 48" even if it was done right. As particular and accurate as Monk is, he wouldn't make this mistake.

Monk (2002)
Mr. Monk and the Genius - S7-E2
Character mistake: At the beginning when Monk is writing Natalie's check, we see a shot of it, but the I in "nine" isn't dotted. As meticulous as he is, Monk would never leave an I undotted (we've even seen him dot someone else's i) especially since it would bother him.

Mr. Monk and His Biggest Fan - S6-E1
Continuity mistake: When Randy is playing "Timber", we see a close up shot of the boy taking out a middle piece and there's no other middle pieces removed. But in the next shot, you can see 2 middle pieces gone.

Mr. Monk Goes to the Hospital - S5-E16
Continuity mistake: When the police are told room 623 is the geriatric ward, Stottlemeyer is holding the seal with the glove up in his right hand when Randy leaves. But in the next shot, his hand is down and you don't see the glove.

Monk (2002)
Question: How exactly does Monk afford to pay Natalie? Would he still get a pension after being discharged for psychiatric reasons? Is it ever mentioned (in-universe or otherwise) if he's independently wealthy or something? On several occasions Natalie tried to get the department to pay Monk more and tells Monk he can't afford things at times or his check will bounce, like he's broke.
Answer: He gets paid by the city on a case by case basis, and she gets paid out of that.
Answer: He would have received a disability check, suffering from a mental illness qualifies you, the same as a physical injury, but would be limited to his therapy and living expenses.
Except he would be limited in what he could earn to receive payments and that wouldn't be enough to pay a full time employee.

Monk (2002)
Question: Is it ever stated (in-universe or otherwise) if Natalie has a second job, or how she can afford everything, including all her new cars (I've seen her in at least 5 new cars, including an Audi)? She's always complaining she's broke, even after it's revealed she's a Davenport. But she also claims she doesn't take money from them. Plus, she's always trying to get Monk to pay her and/or pay her the full amount she's owed.
Answer: Through the entire show, I don't recall her ever mentioning another job. The two explanations I had for being able to afford those cars, was there might have been a life insurance policy after her husbands death (or Mitch left her quite a bit after he died). The other may have been she had accepted some money from her family willingly or unwillingly asked for it. But in truth, I would imagine it was for product placement in the show. Most shows like Monk tend to keep the characters moderately wealthy or financially healthy, so they can insert products or items for the characters to use. Phones, food items, cars etc.
Answer: In one of the episodes it shows her going back home and that she came from money. Her parents are wealthy. Maybe that is the answer.
But in the show after it's revealed she comes from money, she states she doesn't take money from her parents, despite still visiting them.

Mr. Monk Makes the Playoffs - S7-E13
Revealing mistake: When Monk steps in front of the limo to stop it from leaving, on the bottom right of the screen there's a black line that doglegs to the right (seen over Monk's coat sleeve). It's like the camera was cracked or something was stuck to it. When the camera angle changes it's gone, but is there where the camera is back on Monk.

Monk (2002)
Mr. Monk and the Big Game - S5-E3
Character mistake: When Julie asks "who discovered DNA?", Captain Stottlemeyer says "Watson and Crick. Two British scientists." However, James Watson is American (as of 2021 he's still alive), not British. And the duo only discovered the structure of DNA, not DNA itself. As much knowledge as the Captain demonstrates on the subject, he should know these two facts at least.

Continuity mistake: When Monk is asking Ms. Moody if the roof is known, she's crying into both her hands. But in the next shot, she's only crying into her left hand and her right hand is down. The shot changes, and we see her lowering her right hand, not left. In the next shot her left hand is up again.

Other mistake: When Natalie sits down with Randy eating ice cream, she's says "vanilla fudge, my favorite." But the carton is labeled "chocolate." Plus Randy says he got it out of her freezer, so she would know she bought just regular chocolate ice cream.

Trivia: The doctor that calls Joey is named "Dr. Levine", which seems to be a nod to Ted Levine, the actor who plays Captain Stottlemeyer.
