Continuity mistake: When Violet is in the kitchen scrubbing the dishes, if you look right in front of her there is a small rack containing a red box. The end of the red box is over the edge of the rack. When it cuts to Klaus scrubbing, the red box is inside the rack. (00:14:15)

Continuity mistake: When Violet and Klaus are about to close the door in front of Stephano he rams a knife in to the door, and he even twist the knife a bit. This should at least make a mark. Later when Stephano asks if the kids can help him with his bags Violet turns around facing Uncle Monty. Now we can see the door and there is no mark where Stephano rammed the knife in to. Continuity mistake: When the Baudelaires jump over from the broken piece of the house over to the rest of the house, as they land, you can see to the right that there is a big hole in the wall where there should be a window with sprinkles. Trivia: When Jim Carrey, as Count Olaf, is being told that the Baudelaires parents are dead he says "Yes, of course. How very, very awful". Then he suddenly says "Wait, let me do that one more time. Give me the line again. Quickly, while it's fresh in my mind.". That was pure improvising and was not supposed to be in the movie. Jim Carrey actually wanted to do that shot again. But the directors thought it fit in the movie and included it. (00:10:55)

Deliberate mistake: When Violet and Klaus have the anchor on the three cans they use to roll it on, just before they tip it over the edge, it is obvious the anchor isn't a real anchor. It's too light. When they keep pushing it back and forth, it should tip over because of the weight if it was a real anchor. They shouldn't have been able to handle it like that. (01:01:45)
