Other mistake: When Rocky is in the funhouse looking at himself, he appears to look relatively "normal". But it's very obvious that it's got nothing to do with the mirror, and more to do with the removal of a lot of makeup. For example, Rocky usually has almost no nose, but in the mirror he has Eric Stoltz's very well developed nose.
Mask (1985)
Directed by: Peter Bogdanovich
Starring: Laura Dern, Sam Elliott, Eric Stoltz, Cher, Estelle Getty
Deliberate mistake: The mirror that made Rocky's face look normal should've made his mom's face look different, but her face stayed the same.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the movie a big man is placing flowers at Rocky's grave. From the back of the tombstone he is laying the flowers on their sides. In the next shot, from the front of the stone, they are standing up, leaning against the stone.
Trivia: Director Peter Bogdanovich's first choice for the part of Rocky Dennis was Anthony Michael Hall. Hall turned down the part because he didn't like the idea of hiding his face during the whole film with make-up. Eric Stoltz was then cast instead.
Suggested correction: I don't know if you are right or wrong, but I thought Eric was given the role because he sang "Rock-y" during his audition. [I'm not really asserting that you are wrong; I had to pick that option in order to be able to reply here.].
Trivia: During the baseball game at the camp for the blind, notice the extra actor standing to the right of second base. She reaches back and pulls her underwear out of the crack of her bottom, apparently oblivious to the camera behind her.
Trivia: Rocky wasn't buried in a cemetery as shown in the end. His body was donated to science.
Rusty Dennis: First you told me he was gonna be retarded, then you told me he was gonna be blind and deaf. If I'd dug his grave every time one of you geniuses told me he was gonna die, I'd be eating fuckin' chop suey in China by now.
Rocky Dennis: Don't worry, Mr. Simms. I look weird, but otherwise I'm real normal. Everything'll be cool.
Rocky Dennis: What's his problem, Ma?
Rusty Dennis: Nothing. He's just another asshole. You let that negative dreck in and it'll put ya away. You can be a chickenshit and die or be a mensch and keep makin' yourself well.
Question: I don't know if this is a urban myth or what, but didn't the real Rocky Dennis like Bruce Springsteen, but "The Boss" or his manager/lawyer, etc refused to allow the music to be used in the movie and that is why Bob Seger's tunes were used instead?
Answer: According to the IMDb, so take with a degree of scepticism, Rocky's favourite music was indeed Springsteen and the Boss himself was happy for it to be used, but, at the time of the original release, an agreement regarding royalty rates could not be reached with the rights owner. A director's cut was released a while later with seven minute of additional footage and the Springsteen songs used instead, after Springsteen pushed for an agreement to be made.
Question: When Rocky kisses Dianne, why is it a New Years dance if they are at summer camp?
Answer: It appears to be a party at camp. Lots of camps have special themed parties especially before the camp is over.
Question: How did Rocky die? Was it because of his condition?
Answer: His official cause of death was listed as "sudden arrhythmic death syndrome," which is basically just when someone dies unexpectedly, usually during sleep. It's widely believed that it was caused by his disorder, as his disorder often causes early death, but to my knowledge it was never definitively proven.
