Continuity mistake: At the end when Billy Zane takes off his mask, the black makeup around his eyes "magically" disappears, even before the eyepatch section gets pulled from his face.

Continuity mistake: When the young boy crawls on the sea shore after being attacked by pirates, his hairstyle changes between shots.

Factual error: When Xander's thugs are taking the Phantom up to the roof to do away with him, he breaks away and ducks into the machinery room for the elevator. In the scene the door of the room is lockable from the inside only. This door should be lockable from only the outside.

Trivia: Billy Zane was a fan of the character and took the film very seriously. He spent a year working out and doing weight training to build muscle mass, so he wouldn't have to wear a fake muscle suit. He'd also leave set in full costume and drive around, get lunch, etc.
