Continuity mistake: When P.W. is escaping certain trouble somehow his handle bar comes off (with ribbons) a new one is replaced (without ribbons) - cool bike huh? But in the next scene the new handle has ribbons... (01:13:00)
Continuity mistake: Early in the Warner Bros. studio chase sequence we see a team of security guards in pursuit of Pee-wee. Somehow the guard in front switches from using a golf cart to a bicycle, all within a few brief cuts. This is the same guard who pulled the right handle from Pee-wee's bike moments ago. (01:13:05)
Continuity mistake: During the Warner Bros. chase sequence, Pee-Wee blasts through a studio that's filming a beach-themed movie. Upon exiting into the alley - where only a couple of idle trucks are present - he's pursued by a security guard driving a boat with two skiers in tow. But in the next shot, a station wagon and three actors emerge in the alley from out of nowhere. (01:14:20)
Factual error: Towards the end when Pee Wee is being chased through the sound stage, he comes out through the open doors and the red light is flashing that indicates that filming is going on. But if the light were on, the doors would not be open. They also take a while to open, so it's not like they could have just swung open right before Pee Wee got there. (01:14:30)
Revealing mistake: After Pee-Wee tears through a Godzilla production in the Warner Bros. studios with his bike, he exits the stage, ending up on an alley where he turns left to evade the props and security guards on his tail - one of which has a motorbike. On the pavement beneath him is a curved skid mark from a previous take, not unlike the one left behind by the motorbike seconds later. (01:15:40)
Visible crew/equipment: Near the end of Pee-Wee's chase scene at the Warner Bros. studios, he activates a launch mechanism on his bike and soars over a barb wire fence onto a roof. As he shouts "Geronimo," there is a crew member on the lower right hand side of the screen sporting a pair of sunglasses in front of a platform just staring towards the camera for a few seconds (best viewed on the matted widescreen DVD release). (01:17:05)
Continuity mistake: After Pee-Wee loses the Warner Bros. security crew on his tail, he sees a burning pet shop and decides to rescue the animals inside. Take a look at the early '80s red and black Chevy Suburban parked by the entrance. Whenever Pee-Wee runs outside, the amount of sunlight cast on the vehicle changes (sometimes lots of light, very little light or none at all) as though the scene were filmed at different parts of the day, then pieced together. (01:17:25)
Continuity mistake: Burn marks on the edge of the pet shop door temporarily disappear when Pee-Wee is outside freeing the flock of doves. (01:18:30)
Visible crew/equipment: When Pee-Wee takes one last look at the snake aquarium, a crew member can be seen moving around in a reflection on the glass. (01:19:20)
Continuity mistake: In the pet store fire scene, you see an aquarium full of fish. At one point Pee Wee stops to rescue them by scooping them into a plastic bag filled with water. While he's doing this, the aquarium is nearly empty. In the last scene of the sequence (as he's running out of the store with the snakes), the aquarium is again chock-full of fish. (01:19:20)
Revealing mistake: The entire snack bar cartoon sequence shot at the drive-in theater during the world premiere of "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" is actually a montage of different shots patched together, and it almost looks completely seamless until you focus in on the car farthest right. Notice how the passengers change positions every time the shot changes on the drive-in screen. (01:21:00)
Visible crew/equipment: When Pee Wee's getting his beloved superbike out of his secret hiding place you can see a hand holding it up for him.
Other mistake: As the automated setup makes breakfast, it makes a total of seven pancakes (the two that end up on his plate, and five stuck on the ceiling). Trouble is that was only enough batter for one pancake, and no refilling device.
Continuity mistake: As the Rube Goldberg type setup works, the gold cherub statue pours batter in the pan the Lincoln statue is holding. When the camera angle changes, the cherub starts to pour the batter again.
Other mistake: In the beginning, as Pee-Wee waits for the crown in his dream, a bell starts ringing, and everyone leaves, leaving him alone. After all the photographers are gone, there is one more flash from a camera before the transition to his room.
Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee is walking away from his house with his bike, you can see two lawn gnomes behind him, next to his house. When he sees Francis, the lawn gnomes have mysteriously disappeared.
Continuity mistake: In the studio scene, the tow rope from the boat flies through the area and attaches to the antlers of Santa's reindeer to start dragging the sleigh. In the subsequent shots of the boat and sleigh, the tow rope is attached firmly to a bar between the reindeer.
Other mistake: Five pancakes are made and shot onto the kitchen ceiling, yet only one is on Pee-Wee's plate.
Suggested correction: I think it's reasonable to presume that one simply fell down onto the plate while the others remained stuck to the ceiling.
Continuity mistake: During the scenes where Pee-Wee is riding with Large Marge, a quick exterior shot of the passenger side of the truck shows Large Marge's rig towing a trailer with horizontal ribbing. After dropping Pee-Wee off at the truck stop, her trailer changes to one with vertical ribbing.
Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee is in the car with Mickey, some shots are shown from Mickey's point of view and you can see the background behind Pee-Wee. If you look carefully, you can see that in the background there is a road that comes into the main road they are driving on. This smaller road appears twice, as if they have not moved anywhere.
