Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee is on the roadside trying to hitch a ride to Texas, the sun casts a shadow behind him which is mostly parallel to the road. But in the subsequent shots of oncoming cars, the sun is casting a long shadow on each one's passenger side - obviously implying a different time of day. (00:33:00)
Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee first tries hitching a ride to Texas, two cars pass by before he reaches into his bindle for a fake thumb. Between shots, the darker car vanishes. (00:33:00)
Continuity mistake: When Pee-wee is sitting on the roadside with his Texas sign facing traffic, the hobo stick at his side changes position between frames. (00:33:30)
Continuity mistake: When Mickey has to stop his car for the officer, he shifts into park and sits rigidly, facing the windshield. From the next angle he's facing right instead. (00:36:25)
Continuity mistake: After Mickey and Pee-Wee evade the highway patrolman, Mickey takes a good look at Pee-Wee in the outfit and smiles. Before the scene cuts away, you can see how the convertible is missing its rear-view mirror. Soon Pee-Wee sends the car over a cliff's ledge and, as they're screaming together on the way down, a rear-view mirror is hanging from the windshield all of a sudden. But once the car hits ground, the mirror is no longer there. (00:37:40 - 00:39:00)
Revealing mistake: When Pee Wee is driving while Mickey is sleeping, he is passing all these signs that warn the road is going to become curvy. If you look at the bottom of the signs, you can see they are being moved on a track while the camera stays stationary. Full screen only. (00:38:30)
Revealing mistake: When Mickey drops off Pee Wee in the middle of nowhere he hears animal sounds all around, so he reaches for his headlight glasses and puts them on. All the animals except for a few small critters like raccoons are all fake. (00:40:55)
Factual error: When you see Large Marge's memorial in the diner it says that the day she died was January 11 and when Pee Wee goes to Texas and is running from Andy there is a Día de los Muertos parade going on. That holiday actually takes place on November 1st and 2nd, that's a major time difference of ten months. (00:44:05 - 00:59:30)
Continuity mistake: When Andy first charges at Pee-wee with the dinosaur bone, he swings it over his left shoulder. In the next shot he repeats the same action (albeit slightly differently). (00:49:20)
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Andy chases Pee-wee down with a dinosaur bone, we can see Simone in the background flailing her arms and screaming Andy's name. At first she's walking towards a nearby staircase on the dinosaur's left side, but between cuts she quickly repositions and is now standing in front of the dinosaur's large foot instead. (00:49:25)
Other mistake: Just before Jack and Pee-Wee start singing in the rail car, their train passes by some empty farmland. Pay particular attention to the buildings on the horizon, though. After a few songs, Pee-Wee can't take it anymore and decides to cover his ears and bail out - but where he lands is the very same location described before the singing began (note the exact same buildings and distance to them, which hasn't changed at all), as if the train didn't cover any ground. (00:51:15 - 00:52:05)
Visible crew/equipment: Look closely when Pee Wee and John the hobo are sitting on the side of a traincar singing and you can see safety straps keeping them on the train. (00:51:20)
Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee finds the Alamo, he is shown holding a San Antonio travel brochure. Notice how his right hand grips the bottom near a crease and his left hand holds the left side. In the next shot he lowers the brochure and starts to chuckle out loud, but now his right hand is positioned on the right side instead. (00:52:20)
Visible crew/equipment: When Pee-Wee is riding the bull, the announcer finishes saying "He's going for a new world record", and at the bottom, middle/left you can see that Pee-Wee is not riding an actual bull. If you have a quick eye, you can see he's riding a mechanical bull like the one from the movie Urban Cowboy. (01:00:50)
Continuity mistake: Right after Pee Wee gets thrown off the bull, Andy jumps in. The bull starts to chase him. He jumps over the fence and there is a edit or cut before the bull does. You can see people in the stands arms change position. (01:01:15)
Continuity mistake: During the clown nightmare sequence, three clowns open a set of doors and push a gurney carrying Pee-Wee's dismantled bike down a long corridor. As the shots change, the gurney's handle lowers by itself, then lifts up again. (01:07:10)
Deliberate mistake: In the scene where Pee Wee is dreaming after his crash, the crane that is going to pick up his bike misses the bike completely and then is shown in the air as if it actually had grabbed it. (01:07:50)
Continuity mistake: When Pee-Wee is wandering through the Warner Bros. lot in search of Kevin Morton, he asks a feminine-toned crew member for help. The member grabs his helmet with the left hand, saying "Gee I don't know." But in the next shot he reaches for the helmet all over again. (01:09:50)
Audio problem: The carts the guards are chasing Pee-Wee in are electric, which we see when they first get to them and have to unplug them. However throughout the entire chase scene we distinctly hear gas engine sounds. (01:12:30)
Continuity mistake: When the security guards are seen pulling the cords out from the wall, we see four of them pulling the plugs. However when the shot changes, we see three of the carts pulling away and the fourth guard still hasn't reached his cart or plug yet. (01:12:30)
Answer: It was some sort of gag gum (popular in the past) that either had hot pepper/cinnamon or simply tasted terrible.
