Continuity mistake: After the press conference, in the first shot of Jackson and Johnson walking into the office, Johnson has his gun in the shoulder holster at his left, but when Jackson tells everyone that most are on the list Johnson's shoulder holster is empty. Cut back a few seconds later and his weapon is back. (00:04:00 - 00:04:30)
Continuity mistake: When Danson and Highsmith return to the office celebrating, their ribbon medals are visible. In two shots their medals disappear. The first time, in the shot after Allen's and Terry's faces are circled as the audio says, 'And the other guys', Danson's medal disappears. The second time, when Allen says, 'And we'll do it again and again', Highsmith yells at him, and both Highsmith's and Danson's medals disappear. However, in all other shots their medals reappear again. (00:04:15)
Continuity mistake: Gamble and Hoitz get thrown to the ground when the accounting office explodes. In an overhead shot of them rolling around on the ground, Gamble's wooden gun has fallen from its holster and is lying on the ground. Cut to a side shot and the gun is back in its holster. Gamble had both hands covering his ears the whole time, he did not pick up the gun. Then comes another overhead shot, the wooden gun is again missing from the holster. (00:48:45)
Continuity mistake: During the fight scene in David Ershon's office, Will Ferrell grabs a painting off the wall and smashes it, and two shots later while the fight scene is still happening, the same painting is back up on the wall in perfect condition. (00:55:25)
Factual error: After the stationary 3D scene of the wild night drinking. There is a city skyline scene. The film is set in New York and the skyline scene is actually of Boston. Check the buildings from the right hand side. Recognisable ones you see in order:- The I.M. Pei Building. (with the arch on it.) The Prudential Building. The new John Hancock Building and then just at the base of it, to the left and partially obscured, the distinctive original John Hancock Building.
Continuity mistake: The car is replaced with a grey door after it is in an accident. When you see the car on a train to Las Vegas the car door is red again. Every time you see it after this it is back to being grey.
Factual error: In the film they refer to a robbery in progress as a 211 at beginning of the film. The problem is that's the California Penal Code for robbery, not New York. New York's Penal Code for robbery is 10-30.
Continuity mistake: Early in the film while Terry and Allen are bickering about doing paperwork, Terry's computer Solitaire game varies significantly as the camera moves back and forth between then. (First, there's only one line of cards, then there are three, then one, then four.) Terry is not interacting with the computer in any way during this scene.
Factual error: When Gamble and Hoitz go the David Ershon's accounting office in Fairlawn, NJ, every car in the parking lot has New York plates. A bit hard since Fairlawn is near Paterson, NJ, and is located in Southeast Bergen County. After the office explodes the fire dept. shows up in fire trucks in yellow w/blue striping. Fairlawn Fire Dept. fire trucks are red w/white striping or white over red paint.
Revealing mistake: In the beginning, during the press conference, there's a press photographer taking pictures. He's obviously an extra with no experience in DSLR cameras at all, holding the camera around the flash and lens. He pushed buttons on the flash to "take a photo" and not one finger actually moves the real trigger on the upper right of the camera body.
Revealing mistake: When Johnson's and Jackson's characters jump off the roof of the building, on the way down Jackson's character changes to the white stunt double.
Continuity mistake: The color of the car's back passenger door goes from grey, then red, then white, then back to red throughout the entire movie after the old bums have their way inside of it.
Visible crew/equipment: After Gamble and Hoitz get back from seeing Jersey Boys, there is a shot of Ershon over Gamble/Horitz's shoulder and the boom mike dips into the shot a few times in the top-left corner.
Continuity mistake: Wahlberg is involved in a silent fight after the funeral of Johnson and Jackson and during the part when Keaton comes to break it up, the pictures behind him on the wall change directions, moving between tilted and barely straight.
Continuity mistake: When the bomb blows up and Terry and Allen are lying in the parking lot, Allen's wooden gun is in its holster, then it's on the ground underneath him. Also Terry's radio is on his hip and then it's not.
Continuity mistake: Shelia's dress changes in one of the dinner scenes. Sometimes off the shoulder, then above the shoulder and then below, etc.
Character mistake: Will Ferrell is talked into shooting his gun at the ceiling. Keaton comes from his office and takes his gun and gives him a wooden one. When he takes the real gun, he unloads the magazine from the gun but fails to remove the round in the chamber. He's a cop, he should know how to safely handle a gun.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell are talking to Michael Keaton in the store where Keaton works part-time, watch the people in the background. The same girl is browsing the shelves when the camera is pointing down the aisle between the characters and also when the camera is pointing directly at Keaton (i.e. she is two different locations in the store simultaneously).
Continuity mistake: When Terry and Allen are driving on the bridge from New York to New Jersey, they are shown in an aerial shot as traveling in the right hand lane, (the one closest to the railing), yet when we see them inside the car, the background shows cars passing them on the right.
Continuity mistake: Receptionist brings drinks into Ershon's office and leaves the door open on exiting but shortly after door is closed.
