Lyra (Dakota Blue Richards) destroys the machine that separates children from their daemons. The children escape from the research facility and are stopped by a group of Tartars. Iorek Byrnison (voiced by Ian McKellen), Lee Scoresby (Sam Elliott), Serafina Pekkala (Eva Green), witches and Gyptians arrive to help the children just in time. Serafina warns Lee about an upcoming war and says that the Magisterium wants to rule all the worlds. Lyra decides to go find Lord Asriel (Daniel Craig) to give him the alethiometer, help him before the Magisterium kills him and to learn more about Dust; Asriel is trying to find a way to travel into other worlds. Lyra, Roger and Iorek travel with Lee to find Asriel...

Answer: The first film made too small a profit and failed to resonate with its targeted youth audience.
