Rescue Dawn

Factual error: As Christian Bale's Skyraider releases rockets, at first they drop like bombs. In real life, rockets shoot away instantly, at an almost straight line from the launching plane, never falling like bombs.

Factual error: Dengler is assigned to the USS Ranger, CVA61, yet, as he launches for his mission, he is not taking off from a Forrestal Class carrier...in fact, the island belongs to no carrier in the US Navy.

Factual error: In the squadron ready room, the Admiral refers to Dengler as "Flight Lieutenant" Dengler, a rank that doesn't exist in the US Navy.

Factual error: At the beginning, when Christian Bale is attacking Cong positions, his airplane is supposed to be a Skyraider - except that the cockpit canopy is awfully small and sits very close to his head, which makes it completely different from a Skyraider cockpit.

Visible crew/equipment: When Dieter steals the rifles from the hut and approaches the other prisoners before their attack on the kitchen, a crew member (wearing a cap) can be seen moving from the right of the screen to the left with a camera or some other equipment. (01:19:35)

Squad Leader: You're gonna be Spook's wingman. You think you can handle that?
Dieter: I could not ask for a better man, sir. But, please, could I ask you a question?
Squad Leader: Go ahead.
Dieter: You know, Spook is such a goddamn daredevil, could you please order him not to try too hard to die for his country, but rather to let the son-of-a-bitch on the other side die for his instead?

Trivia: The movie is based on a true story. Dieter Dengler was born in Germany just before WWII, and eventually left for the US. He told this story in the book "Little Dieter Needs to Fly" and a 1997 film (Werner Herzog) with the same same.
