It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World

Continuity mistake: When Culpeper is giving everyone the opportunity to turn themselves into the police, just after he finishes saying "and, uh, just walk in", he is shown tilting it head backwards, but when the shot cuts, his head is suddenly leaning forwards. (02:20:23)

Casual Person

Continuity mistake: When the Crumps, Meyer, Ding and Benjy are in the taxicab just after leaving the park, Meyer looks out the back window to notice Culpeper driving in the opposite direction, so he yells "Hold it" to the driver. The driver then starts to turn towards the right so that he can park on the sidewalk. Whilst the driver is saying "Can you see him", the taxicab is in the middle of pulling over and is still driving. It then cuts to a shot of Culpeper driving, and towards the right hand side of shot, in the background we can see that the two taxicabs have fully stopped. (02:22:03)

Casual Person

Continuity mistake: When Culpeper is shown driving down the road, and is about to turn back onto the main road after leaving the park, the two taxicabs filled with the other 13 people who went after the money can be seen to the far right of shot. A couple of people can be seen standing behind the taxicab in front. But a couple of shots later, when the people in the taxicabs get out, those people shown standing by it are nowhere in sight. (02:22:05)

Casual Person

Continuity mistake: When everyone gets back into the taxicabs after discovering that Culpeper has driven off with the money, the area that the two cabs are positioned in is shadowed, but as the cabs begin to drive in the following shot, the same area is now covered in sunlight. (02:22:35)

Casual Person

Visible crew/equipment: When Culpeper attempts to hide his car in the garage, the two taxicabs catch up with him, prompting Culpeper to drive away. In the shot of Culpeper driving out of the garage and away from the others, the camera crew can be seen reflected on the side of his car. (02:24:20)

Casual Person

Continuity mistake: Just after Culpeper flees from the garage he attempted to hide his car in, the others get back into the two taxicabs. As they do this, Culpeper's accomplice Jimmy is shown putting his left on the taxicab in front and begins pulling his hand on the cab just as the shot ends. The camera then changes angles and his left hand is now shown pointing towards the right. Something he was not doing at the end of the previous shot. (02:24:34)

Casual Person

Revealing mistake: During the chase scene where the two taxicabs are chasing after Culpeper, the chase is shown going into a street. There is a shot shown from behind the three vehicles where they drive around a broken down car parked in the middle of the street. A man can be seen climbing onto the back of the car and can then be seen momentarily looking at the camera, presumably to avoid coming into contact with the car that is filming the chase scene. Continuity mistake: Whilst Culpeper is being chased by the two taxicabs, there is a shot from inside Culpeper's car looking out of the front windshield. In the shot, a "One Way" sign can be seen in the middle of the road whilst the car turns around the corner. It then cuts to a wide shot where the sign has suddenly disappeared. (02:28:13)

Continuity mistake: When Melville is launched from the ladder and down through the stairs in the apartment building, he is shown landing in a gap between the stairs. In the first shot, he is shown putting his hand on the bottom step of the stairs. A closer shot of Melville is then shown where his hand is now placed on the second step. (02:36:08)

Casual Person

Other mistake: One of the cab drivers who fell off the ladder is shown landing on an Abraham Lincoln statue. After landing on the statue, he is shown using his arms to push his upper body upwards. However, in the following scene, when everyone is in the hospital, the same cab driver can be seen with casts around his arms indicating they have been broken from the impact. He would not have been able to push his body up after landing on the statue if his arms were broken. (02:36:38 - 02:39:44)

Casual Person

Revealing mistake: When the cab driver lands on the statue of Abraham Lincoln, the right hand of the statue can be seen wobbling, revealing that it is a rubber prop. (02:36:38)

Casual Person

Revealing mistake: When Mrs. Marcus falls after slipping on the banana peel, two wires used to help pull her backwards can be seen. (02:40:12)

Casual Person

Revealing mistake: When Mrs. Marcus walks into the hospital room to shout at the men, she is shown slipping after stepping on a banana peel. A closer look will show that she reacts to slipping on the banana peel and begins to fall backwards a split-second before she actually steps on it. (02:40:12)

Casual Person

Continuity mistake: In the wide-angle shots of the blue Willys (Jeep) wagon, the windshield is a 2-piece version with a vertical divider in the middle. The close-up shots don't have the divider.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Dick Shawn and all the characters find the box of money under the big W, Shawn has just thrown Jonathan Winters out of the hole so he would have room to work. But in the next five edits, Winters is both in the hole helping Shawn struggle with the box and is also shown standing outside the hole observing himself along with the others.

Continuity mistake: In the last scene when they are all on the fire escape, there is one part where the landing nearly collapses and Sylvester is seen nearly flying off the landing. The next immediate shot shows Sylvester fighting for the ladder. He apparently climbed up the landing and crawled over a bunch of people in a fraction of a second.

Continuity mistake: About three quarters into the movie, Sylvester, in his red '62 Dodge Dart convertible, sees brother-in-law Russell Finch and Mr. Hawthorne drive by in a '61 blue Chevy Impala. When Sylvester does a u-turn to give chase, you can see the passenger side of the Dart is already caved-in. A few moments later, when he rams the Dodge into the Chevy, kind of Ben-Hur chariot style, is when the initial damage should have occurred. Evidently, the chase scene was filmed out of order. Also, prior to the chase, the Dodge is shown primarily from the driver's side, perhaps to conceal the damage on the passenger side of the car.

Other mistake: When the English guy and Russell are in the car watch the background - all of a sudden it changes.

Revealing mistake: When the couple in the truck are driven off and down the side of the mountain the direction of the truck does not match the direction he steers the truck.
