Continuity mistake: There's a scene where Barbara Covett is writing in her journal and the voice-over refers to it as "A Gold Star Day," and we see a close-up shot of Barbara's index finger pasting a gold star on the page of her journal; her fingernail is unpolished and just a bit grimy. In the next shot, we see Barbara still writing in her journal but now her nails are polished pink. (You can see this in the clip "Gold Star Day," which is on the film's website).

Barbara informs the head of the school about Sheba's affair. Sheba, after getting kicked from her house, moves to live with Barbara. Only to find out Barbara is a lesbian, and been in love with her all the while. Sheba then hits Barbara, and returns to live with her husband. In the movie's ending scene Barbara meets a new "prey".
Barbara Covett: People like Sheba think they know what it is to be lonely. But of the drip, drip of the long-haul, no-end-in-sight solitude, they know nothing. What it's like to construct an entire weekend around a visit to the launderette. Or to be so chronically untouched that the accidental brush of a bus conductor's hand sends a jolt of longing straight to your groin. Of this, Sheba and her like have no clue.
