Continuity mistake: When Jack Twist is chopping wood, right before Joe Aguirre visits him on his horse, he sets up a piece of wood to chop. Jack talks to Joe and when the camera pans out to show him ready to chop again, the piece of wood is gone.

Trivia: Actor Randy Quaid, who played Jack and Ennis' boss in the movie, filed a lawsuit against the studio, claiming that the studio had made him believe that it was a low budget movie rather than a big production as to secure his pro-acting talents for cheap fees.
