The Dukes of Hazzard

The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) opens in Hazzard County, Georgia. The Duke family, consisting of cousins Bo (Seann William Scott) and Luke (Johnny Knoxville), along with their Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson), are struggling to save their beloved farm from being taken over by the corrupt commissioner, "Boss" Hogg (Burt Reynolds).

Bo and Luke spend their days engaging in wild and often illegal car stunts, racing their iconic orange 1969 Dodge Charger called The General Lee. However, their skills catch the attention of Rosco P. Coltrane (M.C. Gainey), Boss Hogg's dimwitted sheriff, who constantly tries to catch them breaking the law.

Meanwhile, Daisy Duke (Jessica Simpson), Bo and Luke's attractive cousin, is working as a waitress at a local bar. Throughout the movie, she faces constant advances from men and frequently wears her iconic, short-cut denim shorts. Daisy's love interest, Enos Strate (Michael Weston), is Hogg's deputy, torn between his loyalty to Hogg and his feelings for Daisy.

Boss Hogg, with the help of his seductive associate, Sheev (Lynda Carter), devises a scheme to strip the Duke family of their land. He plans to utilize its valuable mineral rights to exploit the local population. To achieve this, he hosts a moonshine festival to distract everyone from his true intentions.

Unbeknownst to Boss Hogg, the Duke boys discover his plan and decide to take action. They enlist the help of their mechanic-friend Cooter (David Koechner) to modify The General Lee with nitrous oxide, making it even faster. With their iconic car ready, the Duke family sets out to uncover and expose Boss Hogg's scheme.

As the moonshine festival begins, Bo and Luke participate in a race against various other drivers, including Hazzard legend Billy Prickett (James Roday Rodriguez). With their skills, they outshine the competition and emerge victorious. During the race, Bo and Luke uncover a hidden camera in their car, which confirms their suspicions about Boss Hogg's nefarious activities.

Determined to expose Boss Hogg's plan, the Dukes break into Hogg's office and find incriminating evidence of his corruption. However, they are caught by Hogg, who takes them captive and prepares to kill them. In a daring escape, Bo and Luke manage to overpower their captor, temporarily incapacitating Hogg and fleeing the scene.

With the evidence in hand, Bo and Luke decide to confront Boss Hogg head-on during the moonshine festival's auction. They expose his plan to the entire town, revealing the true motives behind the festival. The people of Hazzard, no longer blinded by the festivities, rally against Hogg.

During the chaotic climax, Boss Hogg attempts to flee Hazzard in a hot air balloon filled with the stolen mineral money. Bo and Luke chase after him in The General Lee, engaging in a high-speed pursuit that culminates in a dramatic jump and crash landing, causing the money to scatter across the county.

Eventually, Boss Hogg is apprehended by Rosco, who re-evaluates his loyalty and decides to stand against corruption. The Dukes, with the support of the citizens, successfully save their farm, and Hazzard County remains in the hands of those who care for it.

In the closing scenes, the Duke family celebrates their victory at a cookout. Daisy chooses to stay in Hazzard County, while Enos quits his position in law enforcement to be with her. The Dukes, now local legends, continue their adventures in Hazzard, vowing to protect their home from any future threats.

Continuity mistake: One of General Lee's wing-mirrors gets blasted off, but it reappears in a later shot. But once Bo and Luke get General Lee to be fixed, it's missing again.

Question: Did DaimlerChrysler re-introduce the Dodge Charger in conjunction with the film, or was their timing merely coincidental?

Answer: Given the massive hype surrounding the film, and the untold publicity it garnered the Charger, I think it's highly unlikely that it was a coincidence, more a cynical marketing strategy.
