Taking Lives

Corrected entry: While the movie is set in Montreal, many locations are in Quebec City. The worst example of this is the Chateau Frontenac, which is very much not in Montreal. They even make a point of showing Mrs Asher being put up in the Chateau.

Correction: While it is not subtitled that we are in Quebec city (like it was for Montreal the first time), it is said that Mrs. Asher lives in Quebec city and she saw her son on the ferry going to Quebec city. So all scenes involving her may take place in Quebec city (like for putting her in a hotel for her protection).

Actually, the ENTIRE movie is filmed in Quebec City, every street, every church, every hotel, etc., NONE of it was in Montreal. And I know this, because I live there!;-).

This is incorrect. Several scenes were shot in Montreal, as well as a few other cities in Quebec. Not to mention some scenes were filmed in a sound stage in Burbank California.

Corrected entry: Costa uses a wire garrote to subdue agent Scott during the struggle in the farm house. A few minutes later she is calling the Canadian inspector, and there is no visible damage to her neck.

Correction: If you look closely you can see the neck damage hidden by the shadow of her chin and hair.

Corrected entry: Why didn't they show the pictures of Ethan and Keifer to Mom at the same time? Obviously they didn't trust Ethan totally, they showed both pictures to the landlord after the interview with Ethan. (00:39:30)

Nikki

Correction: They didn't show them both to Mom because at that point he was a suspect. But when they went to the landlord, they were still considering Ethan Hawke a suspect which is why they showed both photos.

Corrected entry: When they exhume Martin's body, Angelina Jolie and the two doctors are standing over the body in the morgue without covering their noses or wearing masks. They are inspecting and having a conversation around a 15 year old corpse without a hint of an odor. Most people couldn't stay in the same room as a corpse due to the foul odor.

Correction: The odor of a corpse is caused by the byproducts of the process of decomposition. After 15 years, a corpse would have long ago reached whatever stage of decompostion that was allowed by its situation and not smell any worse than the dirt around it.

Myridon

Factual error: In the scene in Costa's apartment after the failed baiting ploy, Costa describes himself as a loner who "bought a gun for a false sense of security", appeared to have had it with him during the evening, and gave the impression that he bought it after he witnessed the murder. Although IlIeana mightn't know, the Montreal police in the room might (should) have wondered about this. Even if legal, it is very difficult to acquire a restricted weapon (handgun) in Canada, the process taking one month to as many as six or more for clearance and permits, let alone courses and examinations. In addition, concealed carry of a weapon is prohibited for civilians. (01:00:25)

Paquette: What kind of gun did he have?
Costa: He had the kind that leaves really big holes in people.

Question: After they find the body in Asher's apartment, and the cops are securing the scene, Paquette says, "lab results for Acosta's DNA came in...he's clean" How did his DNA clear? It came back as James Acosta?

Answer: As "Costa" was initially a suspect, the police took a DNA sample, which did not match any DNA on file - that was what they meant by "he's clean." It basically means that Asher was very careful at not leaving DNA evidence (other than that of others like Hart to frame them). Presumably the real Costa had no DNA profile linked to his identity on file either, or it could have returned a mismatch and revealed Asher's deception.
