Continuity mistake: Carol and Dr. Marvin walked into The Internal Security Commission meeting together. In the next sequence of shots inside the room she disappears, and when Dr. Marvin and Maj. Huglin leave the meeting together she's nowhere to be seen. (00:29:35)
Continuity mistake: Dr. Marvin and Major Huglin leave The Internal Security Commission meeting together and drive from The Pentagon to the doctor's hotel. Even though we just saw Carol and Dr. Marvin fly into Washington in an airplane he's driving the exact same make and model car that they were in at "Operation Sky Hook". Even the California license number AV-35-B7 is the same. (00:30:00)
Continuity mistake: After leaving The Pentagon, Dr. Marvin and Major Huglin arrive at the doctor's hotel in broad daylight. In the next shot as he walks in on Carol sleeping in their room, it's the middle of the night. (00:30:15)
Continuity mistake: Dr. Marvin walks in as Carol sleeps in their hotel room and then proceeds to call the aliens on his shortwave radio. By the time he walks out of the room to meet with them by the Chesapeake Bay the items on top of his dresser have moved, without anyone going near them. (00:31:10)
Continuity mistake: Dr. Marvin runs out of their hotel room and proceeds to his meeting with the aliens by the Chesapeake Bay. Carol calls Major Huglin in his room and we see that the filmmakers used the same room for both shots with items such as paintings, beds, lamps and water pitchers moved to different spots. (00:33:10)
Factual error: The aliens request a meeting with Dr. Marvin on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, near Washington DC. However, the shot of him driving along the shore line shows mountains in the background, which don't exist in Eastern Maryland. (00:35:13)
Visible crew/equipment: After Dr. Marvin drives to his meeting with the aliens by the Chesapeake Bay we see a long shot of him walking on the beach with nothing else in sight. In the next close-up shot he walks through and equipment shadow that shouldn't be there. (00:35:35)
Continuity mistake: The alien spaceship's shadow falls on the sand underneath where Carol, Dr. Marvin and the others are looking at it on the bank of the Chesapeake Bay. In the next shot as they all walk into it they're in sunlight. (00:37:00)
Continuity mistake: Carol's hair is parted in the middle as they stand and look at the alien spaceship as it sits on the bank of the Chesapeake Bay. When we see her inside the spaceship her hair is parted on the right. (00:37:00)
Revealing mistake: When Carol, Dr. Marvin and the others enter the alien spaceship it's obvious by the sound that that they are walking on plywood made to look like metal. (00:37:10)
Continuity mistake: In the scene in which Hugh Marlowe and his fiancée are on the alien ship, speaking with the aliens, his arm is over her shoulder when shown from the front, but down and he is about a foot away from her when shown from behind. The shots alternate back and forth, front and behind, so that the mistake is fairly obvious. (00:37:50)
Revealing mistake: As the alien's speak to Carol, Dr. Marvin and the others inside their spaceship, they use the exact same footage again of them looking at the video screen as they leave earth even though one minute of movie time has elapsed. (00:39:25)
Continuity mistake: As the alien's speak to them inside their spaceship, Dr. Marvin stands next to Carol. In the next shot from behind he has his arm around her waist. (00:40:15)
Continuity mistake: The alien's speak to Carol, Dr. Marvin and the others and show them a Navy Destroyer on their video screen firing on an alien spaceship. If you look closely the guns on the ship are not aimed at the alien spaceship. (00:40:35)
Continuity mistake: The alien's show a Navy Destroyer being destroyed by their death rays. Later as it explodes we see the remains of an aircraft carrier. (00:40:40)
Continuity mistake: The Motorcycle cop that is taken up into the alien spaceship with them asks, "What team has won the most World Series?". When he asks the question he takes his hat off which leaves a dark impression on his forehead, in the next shot it's gone. (00:41:40)
Continuity mistake: There's no smoke inside of the alien spaceship but if you look closely before the motorcycle cop fires his gun, smoke from a previous take can be seen swirling above their heads. (00:42:30)
Continuity mistake: As they speak to the aliens inside the spacecraft look closely as the motorcycle cop draws his gun twice before he shoots at the aliens. (00:42:45)
