Continuity mistake: When Paris is offering all the other prisoners half of his hidden money for a way to escape, he lays down in his bed with his cigar in his mouth and his arms at his side. The camera angle changes to a wide shot of the holding cell and the cigar is now in his right hand near the edge of the bed.

Continuity mistake: When Paris has his private meeting with Woodward, he's smoking a cigar and you can see smoke rising all around him. The camera angle changes to a wide shot and all of the cigar smoke is gone.

Continuity mistake: When Paris is making friends with the guy who shot a cop in the prison yard there is no shadow on Paris' face as he is talking. As a matter of fact, the shot looks like he has a huge bright light focused on him. When the guy who shot the cop is talking it is a different time of day. You can see shadows on his face and the background light is lower.

Continuity mistake: When Paris is driving the horse drawn carriage, he is seen as they start to move with him holding both reins in his hands which are pressed against each other. The camera angle changes to a wide shot and he is now seen with his hands spread far apart.

Continuity mistake: When they dump The Missouri Kid in the bath water, they turn him upside down and dump him into the barrel. You can see that it is not Burgess Meredith and a much younger man. He even grabs the edge of the barrel so he can help guide himself in. You then see one of those flim "flicks", where the camera angle has changed just a bit, before The Missouri kid rises from under the water.

Continuity mistake: When Paris shoots the snakes that are guarding his hidden money, he fires his last 2 shots into the hole and you can see 2 snakes still alive even though the next scene shows them all dead.

Continuity mistake: When Paris first sees the DANGER sign. You can see that the G is larger than the other letters. The camera pans in to a closeup of the inmate painting the sign and he's not even painting the same sign. The letter are all even and outlined differently.

Continuity mistake: An escaping prisoner is shot from behind by the guard on the wall. You even see the bullet holes and blood appear twice on the front of his shirt as the guard fires twice. When the prisoner falls to the ground, there is no bullet hole damage on the back of his white shirt.

Continuity mistake: When the prisoner is shot at the front gate during the escape, he turns around and his shirt is seen half unbuttoned. The camera changes to a close up and his shirt is now fully buttoned.

Continuity mistake: When Paris runs into the barn to steal a horse, the rider seen coming out of the side of the barn looks nothing like the actor who is playing Paris (Kirk Douglas). He looks 30 years younger with a bad wig.

Continuity mistake: When Paris starts the food riot, you will see some mashed potatoes appear and then disappear on Woodward's head.

Continuity mistake: When Paris first meets the new warden (Woodward), as he's talking to him, he starts moving toward him and as he does he takes his cigar out of his mouth with his right hand. The camera angle changes to a close up and the cigar is now in his left hand.

Continuity mistake: When Paris first meets The Missouri Kid he jumps to the top bunk, and starts taking off his jacket while asking him how long as he been in. The Missouri Kid stands up while answering him and Paris is now laying down on his side and the jacket is nowhere to been seen.

Continuity mistake: When Cyrus goes to hang himself, the first camera angle is from Paris' perspective and you can see that Paris is playing the card toss game into a small basket. The camera angle changes to a wide shot and the basket in not there anymore. Happens about three times during angle changes.

Continuity mistake: When the bugle player is playing in the mess hall you will see 2 of the guards actually leaning on their upside down held rifles, when they are suppose to be guarding dangerous criminals.

Continuity mistake: Paris dies next to the horse he got from the widow. When Woodward brings him back to prison Paris is draped over a mule, not his horse.

Continuity mistake: When the Governor is talking to all the prisoners, Woodward is seen sitting with his arms folded. His left hand is seen on the outside of his right arm. The angle changes to a wide view and his hand is now under his arm, and after another angle change it is back on top.
