Biloxi Blues

Factual error: In the mess hall scene in the beginning of the movie, Gerome engages with Joseph W. Gerome says: "You forgot to eat the aluminum tray!" Shortly thereafter, you can tell as they are stacking the trays, they are indeed aluminum. There was a metal shortage during WWII, the trays were stainless steel back then. Just like the pennies. Factual error: During the scene where the platoon is stopped by the large lake on their 15 mile hike Sgt. Toomey says, "You must have been in the first World War." WWI and WWII were not referred to that way until years later.

Revealing mistake: At the beginning of the film, young men headed to basic training in Biloxi, Mississippi are shown on a train crossing a river. The name of the train is visible and easy to read. At the end of the film, the men are leaving Mississippi. The scene shows the train crossing the same river, but the name of the train is backwards. The director must have wanted to save money, and reversed the film for a mirror image.
