Trivia: The original "Scream" was released in 1996. "Scream 2" was released one year later in 1997. And then there was a slightly larger gap before "Scream 3" was released in 2000. (Technically three years later even if it isn't literally three years.) Ironically, the same thing has happened with this "requel" trilogy. The fifth film was released in 2022. "Scream VI" was released one year later in 2023. And there will be a slightly larger gap before "Scream 7" is released in 2026, three years later.
Trivia: The first "Scream" movie directed by franchise creator Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first, second and fourth films, and was involved in a producing capacity on the other three films. It is also only Williamson's second film as a director, with his first being 1999's dark comedy "Teaching Mrs. Tingle." Ironically, Williamson directing "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" is the main reason he wasn't able to write the script for "Scream 3."
Trivia: With this film, Courteney Cox ("Gale Weathers") and Roger L. Jackson (voice of "Ghostface") will be the only actors to appear in all seven "Scream" films, as Neve Campbell did not appear in "Scream VI" due to a pay dispute.
Trivia: Originally, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega were meant to return, with filmmaker Christopher Landon taking over as director. Barrera was controversially fired after comments she made about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with many finding her firing unjust. Ortega then dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with her show "Wednesday." Finally, Landon left, citing the drama behind the scenes. The movie was then completely retooled with a new plot and a bigger focus on legacy characters.
Trivia: The character Mark Kincaid was originally meant to return and appear as Sidney Prescott's husband. However, actor Patrick Dempsey was forced to bow out due to scheduling conflicts, which were further exacerbated by recovery from the California wildfires eating into his remaining free time. Instead, Sidney's husband "Mark" was rewritten into an original character named "Mark Evans," as played by Joel McHale.
