Trivia: Prior to release, the film was seen as something of a "last hurrah" and last hope for Sony's Spider-Man cinematic universe after a string of critical and commercial failures, leaving the future of the franchise up in the air. Unfortunately, the film ended up having one of the worst opening weekends of all time for a big-budget comic book movie, with only $11 million in domestic sales.
