Trivia: Director Robert Eggers claimed that one scene involving Willem Dafoe's Professor Albin Eberhart von Franz contained both real flames and 2,000 live rats.
Trivia: Bill Skarsgård, who portrays Count Orlok, also famously portrayed the evil clown Pennywise in the two theatrical "It" movies. A rule he had for himself with those films was that he didn't want to frighten his co-stars or the crew, so he always went out of his way to be friendly and joke around with everyone between takes. He repeated that tradition here. Many crew members, including producer Chris Columbus, were initially terrified of him in his costume... until he started cracking jokes.
Trivia: Harry Styles and Anya Taylor-Joy were originally cast to star in the film in 2017, but both had to bow out because production was pushed back considerably and scheduling conflicts arose.
Trivia: One year before this film's release, actor Nicholas Hoult, who plays Thomas Hutter, played the title character in "Renfield", another Dracula movie.
Trivia: Willem Dafoe previously played Max Schreck (and by extension, Count Orlok) in Shadow of the Vampire, which is a fictionalized telling of the filming of the 1922 Nosferatu film.
