Continuity mistake: When Bob is in the coffee shop waiting on the call from Dr. Marvin he chases an older man away from the phone. The rope for the fish jar hanging around his neck is twisted around once or twice. The camera cuts away from him then back to him and then the rope is twisted around seven or eight times. (00:27:15)
Revealing mistake: When Dr. Marvin is choking on his food Bob gives him the Heimlich maneuver. He then puts Dr. Marvin on the couch and jumps down on him. Dr. Marvin expels the food just before Bob knees him the third time. This is best viewed in slow-motion. We are lead to believe that the third knee drop caused the food to be dislodged when actually the food is spit out just a split second prior to Bob landing the knee drop. (00:53:20)
Continuity mistake: When Bob and Dr. Marvin are interviewed by Good Morning America the book Bob is holding changes positions between shots. The changes of position are not possible from shot to shot. (01:07:30)
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Dr. Marvin tells Bob to "take a vacation from his problems", there are white sailboats on the lake in back of Bob but when the scene shifts back to Dr. Marvin, the boats are gone, then they once again, magically reappear.
Continuity mistake: When Leo starts coughing, we see Anna start to get up and go to her right, meaning that she'll pass behind her mother's chair. It then cuts to Siggy for literally a fraction of a second, then to the mother. But Anna is never seen in frame behind her mother at any time.
Continuity mistake: Leo Marvin is at the window watching Bob 'leave' and he is holding the newspaper in his left hand. Then he waves and it is still in his left hand. When he walks towards his family it is in his right. He could have switched, but that is some pretty fast switching.
Suggested correction: He could have switched. It, for me, wasn't that fast.
I agree. It wasn't a continuous shot, and he's off camera for 3-4 seconds before we see the paper switch hands.
Factual error: When Leo is "choking," he's coughing and making a lot of yelling and groaning noises. Obviously this means that air is getting to and from his lungs. But the family freaks out, Bob does the Heimlich maneuver, and afterwards the family congratulates Bob for "saving" Leo. The doctor's surely well-educated family should have known that he wasn't in any real danger. (Not to say they wouldn't be concerned, but Bob seems to be doing more damage that what Leo is choking on.)
Continuity mistake: When the camera crew leaves, the Jeep is in the driveway. However, when the camera crew arrived at the house, the Jeep was not there. Look between the arriving crewmembers as they walk up the steps to see where the Jeep is eventually parked.
Continuity mistake: As the camera crew drives away, the shadows on the driveway change dramatically when the family starts walking back up the steps.
Continuity mistake: When the Marvin family is shopping for food in preparation for the GMA crew, the amount of food etc. in their carts is much more than the amount of food etc. that they carry out of the store in paper shopping bags.
Character mistake: When Bob is getting married, the minister says, "with the power invested in me." The proper phrase is "with the power vested in me."
Plot hole: When Dr. Marvin is trying to get Bob to leave the night before his television interview, he can't leave because it's pouring rain. He also can't drive him because their car was left at the boat dock. However, Dr. Marvin could have easily called for a cab to drive Bob back to where he's staying.
Suggested correction: This assumes that there is a taxi service in the small town in which they reside.
This is obviously a tourist town, which would likely create the need for a taxi service.
It also seems to be a fairly secluded and very rich tourist town with cars almost necessary to get around.
Suggested correction: At that time of night in that condition, I highly doubt calling a taxi cab would be easy, especially since Bob lives right down the road, no taxi far away would come just to drive someone a short distance like that.
