Continuity mistake: Before they build the lava dam, when Mike flips over a map on the hood of a truck to draw on it the map is clear of ash. In the next shot from across the hood the map is covered with ash. The next close up it is ash free again. (01:02:25)

Continuity mistake: After the bus is flipped on its side and Roarke and Barnes stop to rescue a man lying in ash, a tree falls blocking their escape with high flames, forcing a ladder truck to save the trio. When the ladder is unable to be lifted because of the weight and extreme heat, the fireman explains he will have to swing them out instead. The ladder swings in the direction of the flaming, downed tree, but the flames from the tree no longer seem to be a hindrance.

Continuity mistake: When Amy Barnes and Roark are in the park, Amy runs up to Roark and says, "Excuse me," and she goes slightly past Roark so she can face him, yet in the following shot she is side by side with Roark. (00:22:35)

Suggested correction: It was not a mask but some equipment on his chest near the radio, which looks pretty burned, when he finally gets outside.

Continuity mistake: When Amy Barnes is leaning against the 4x4/humvee, she realises it is snowing so she puts her hand up. In the previous shot she touches her face with gloves on, and in the following shot the gloves are no longer on her hands. (00:35:50)

The-Immortal

Factual error: The volcanic lava in this movie moves incredibly fast in the subway line. This is not only inaccurate, but also ridiculous and unnecessary. Volcanic lava can possibly move faster when in a concealed area that insulates it, but insulated lava cannot move that fast.

Roark: We're going to put as many people in front of it as it takes. Listen up, people! Let me tell you what's south of us: no more museums, no more department stores, just homes! People! If we turn and run now, they're going to be defenseless! You don't like my plan? That's good. Give me a another plan, but don't tell me we're backing out.

Question: How could Stan and the train driver still be alive in such extreme heat and with lava just underneath them? Shouldn't it destroy their lungs? Shouldn't they get incinerated by the extreme heat of magma?

Answer: Yes, the chances of surviving those circumstances is completely impossible. Not just the heat, but also toxic fumes which will incapacitate you very quickly. At one point the soles of his shoes were melting, at that point you would have been dead. It's a heroic scene, but not very believable.
