Other mistake: The lead is loaned cassettes of 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' and 'Born in the USA' by his mate and then quotes a lyric from 'The River' which he hasn't listened to yet.
Factual error: The film is set in 1987 but most of the street lights seen throughout the movie are LED street lights and some high pressure sodium Philips lanterns (produced from the early 1990s to early 2000s), neither of which were around back then. Similarly many of the shots of the M1 motorway show modern cars and smart motorway/variable speed limits, which never existed at the time.
Factual error: The M1 motorway shown several times is actually the M40, also there can be seen a modern mobile phone mast in these shots.
Continuity mistake: Javed and his father are in the car and they need Javed's mother and sisters to help push the car to get it started. There is an ornament that looks like a traffic light hanging from the rear view mirror in the car, which can be seen in exterior shots of the car, but disappears when we are looking through the windscreen from inside the car. In the next scene after the car has successfully started, the rear view mirror ornament vanishes altogether.
Factual error: The NF did not march through Luton, so they couldn't have encountered such an event on the way to his sister's wedding.
Factual error: The film is set in 1987 in a working class estate. Every house in the street has UPVC windows, which were around then but not very common. All the front doors are too modern for the era too.
Factual error: At the "Daytimer Party", Javed listens to Springsteen's Studio Version of "Because the Night" on his walkman, which was recorded for the 1978 Album "Darkness on the Edge of Town", but was not released to the public before 2010 on "The Promise." In 1987, there was only a live version available publicly. (01:15:00)
Factual error: A late scene in the movie shows a sign for Newark Liberty Airport in 1988. That name only took effect in 2002.
Factual error: The time is set in 1980 but the cars on the motorway are not remotely appropriate for the era. (00:01:36)
