Other mistake: When Dani is looking at the email her sister sent her, there are three replies from Dani shown below it. The first email is listed as being sent 1 hour ago, the second was sent 42 minutes ago and the third was sent 19 minutes ago. Dani then goes on her phone and the time shown on it is 10:17PM. Later in the scene, she starts writing a fourth email to her, and the second and third email are still shown as being sent 42 minutes ago and 19 minutes ago. She then receives a call from an unknown caller and the time shown on her phone is 10:48PM, but the amount of time shown from how long ago the emails were sent hasn't changed. (00:02:55 - 00:07:05)
Continuity mistake: Just after Dani re-reads the worrying email from her sister, she takes out her phone and holds it with both hands near the bottom. We are then shown a close-up of the phone and her right hand is now nearer to the top. (00:03:15)
Other mistake: When Dani is on her phone after trying to contact her parents, the phone is shown on the Recents page listing the most recent calls she has made. The most recent call listed is Home, where she just called and left a message. Then it is followed by Terri, then Mom, then Christian, then Dad. Each of the calls are shown to have been made 1 minute ago. The message she left after calling the house phone lasted about 45 seconds. Then after the call, she looked back at her email for a few moments before going back to her phone. No way could four additional calls have been made all within the span of one minute and still leave a message on the house phone. (00:03:15)
Continuity mistake: When Dani first looks at the Recents page on her phone, the time displayed in the top left corner is 10:18PM. It cuts to Dani, but when it cuts back, the time has gone back one minute to 10:17PM. (00:03:20)
Continuity mistake: When Dani thinks about whether to call Christian, just after she puts down her phone, there is some hair shown brushed over her right ear. When she calls Christian a few seconds later, the hair brushed over her right ear is no longer there. (00:03:25)
Continuity mistake: When Christian is at the cafe with his friends, just after the waitress takes the tip and Pelle tells him "don't forget about all the Swedish women you can impregnate in June", Christian raises his hands in the air. The shot then cuts to Mark and Christian's hands are suddenly lowered. (00:08:05)
Continuity mistake: At the party, when talking about the trip to Sweden, just after Mark says Pelle's invited them to an authentic hippie midsummer at his yodelling farm, it cuts to Dani asking "Oh, yeah." To the right of shot, Mark is shown holding a bottle with part of the label slightly uncovered, while the rest is covered by his hand. Two shots after, in a shot of the whole group, Mark's hand is now entirely covering the label. (00:14:20)
Continuity mistake: When Christian is trying to explain when they will be going on the trip to Sweden to Dani, as he says "I'm probably not gonna go", Mark is holding a bottle upright. The camera changes angles and the bottle he is holding is suddenly titled forwards slightly. (00:14:45)
Continuity mistake: When Dani and Christian are at her apartment after returning from the party, Christian sits down on the couch with her and places his hand on his head in a position where his knuckle is touching his head. It then cuts to Christian saying "It's fine", and it is now his fingers touching his head. (Director's Cut). (00:18:40)
Continuity mistake: When Dani is speaking to Pelle before the trip to Sweden, she is shown wearing a hoodie that is zipped open slightly. The left side of the hoodie is opened out revealing some white stitching along the interior of the zipper. She then moves to the couch that Pelle is sitting on and the right side of the hoodie is now opened out. (00:23:10)
Continuity mistake: When Pelle gets his phone to show Dani photos of his commune, Dani stands up from the chair she is sitting on with both her hands at her side. The camera changes to a different angle where she moves over to Pelle's couch and both her hands are more closed together. (00:23:15)
Other mistake: When Pelle is showing Dani the photos on his phone, the first photo he shows is of a group of women sitting on the ground and other people standing in the background. Dani then points to a symbol on the photo and we are then shown a second photo, without any action done to change it. (00:23:25)
Continuity mistake: When Dani is looking at the photos of the commune, as Pelle says "we make those clothes special for every winter and summer solstice", he is holding the phone and begins to bend his thumb. In the next shot, his thumb is straightened with no bend. (00:23:30)
Continuity mistake: When the group are in the car driving through Sweden, after Mark asks what is it that makes the women hotter, it cuts to Dani and Christian is shown sitting next to her. His arm is positioned so that his wrist is touching her shoulder. The camera changes angles and his arm is suddenly pulled away from her. (00:25:30)
Continuity mistake: When Pelle and Ingemar first reunite in Halsingland, the shadows they cast on the ground are small and light and positioned directly in front of them. Later in the scene, when Mark takes the mushrooms from Ingemar, the shadows are now more deeper and positioned more to a 2 o'clock direction. (00:29:50 - 00:30:40)
Continuity mistake: When Ingemar shows everyone the mushrooms and Mark goes to reach for them, Pelle is scratching his head and begins to lower his arm. The camera changes angles and his arms are suddenly folded. (00:30:38)
Character mistake: There are some musicians at different times in the movie. One of them is playing a moraharpa (traditional Swedish instrument, a predecessor of the nyckelharpa), but holding and playing it incorrectly. (00:38:37 - 01:39:45)
Continuity mistake: In the first meal scene, when Josh asks Pelle for a translation of what the Hårga was singing and Christian asks for one as well, Dani is shown eating out of a bowl and holding a fork, then lowers the bowl and fork as Christian says "Yeah, thanks. That would be amazing." It then cuts to a different angle, where Dani suddenly has food on the fork and the bowl is raised again. (Director's Cut). (00:47:25)
Continuity mistake: When Pelle is explaining how the Hårgas roles work depending on their age, as he says "And finally from 54 to 72, you become a mentor", Christian is behind Pelle facing towards him. The shot changes angles, Christian's body is in a different direction and then turns his head to face Pelle. The shot changes angles again and Christian is now suddenly looking upwards. (00:53:30)
Continuity mistake: When Josh is drawing the runes of the walls in his notebook, in a close-up shot of the notebook, he is drawing nearer to the bottom of the page. In a different shot, Josh turns around to the left and he is now drawing nearer to the top. (Director's Cut). (00:54:20)
Answer: It's actually a boy named Ruben. It's alluded to him being disfigured due to being the product of incest. In the context of the movie, Ruben is supposed to be an "oracle" who comes up with sacred scriptures, runes, etc. From what I understand, due to his deformities and cognitive disabilities, he's considered to be less "constrained" by typical mental/emotional limitations, and thus more open-minded spiritually. (Basically, they believe that because he's so simple-minded and childlike, he's open-minded enough to able to communicate with higher powers).
