Swordfish

Question: Can anyone translate what Axel Torvalds and his lawyer say to each other in their conversation after Agent Roberts is decoyed away by the fake phone call? The film doesn't provide subtitles because it isn't essential to the plot, but I'm still curious.

Phil C.

Chosen answer: Scene 1: T: Funktioniert alles noch? (Everything all right?) L: Es geht (more or less). Scene 2: L: Sagen Sie nichts mehr (Don't say anything). T: Ja. L: Ich kriege Sie hier raus und zurueck nach Europa (I will get you out of here and back to Europe). T: Sie wissen, dass die beiden Affen noch hinter dem Spiegel sind (You know that these two monkeys are behind this mirror). Scene 3: L: Das macht die Lage auch nicht besser (That doesn't improve the situation). The Lawyer speaks German as a foreign language, Thovald's German is perfect.

Question: After Stan finished building the Hydra, he said: 'it's time to disguise you as internal destruction'. Now, I'm not a hacker or a great programmer, so can anybody please explain to me what he meant?

Answer: He wants to dupe everyone who investigates the problem into thinking it was an internal error, rather than a virus. Doing so would lead them away from Stan, and he would get away with the attack.

Question: What actually happens at the end of this film? I know that JT escapes down a staircase and therefore is not killed, but why is there a body? You see Halle Berry get shot, but at the end of the film she is on the boat with Travolta. If he is a good guy, why did he kill all those people? Does Halle Berry actually work for DEA? If not then what is the wire for?

Answer: JT is exactly who he says he is. He leaves a body behind to fool the FBI/CIA into thinking he is dead. Jackman would have believed it too had he not seen him heading down the stairs and the surgically altered corpse. Berry was not hurt, the wire, the DEA story and her getting shot were all parts of a ploy for Jackman to trust and confide in her, making it easier for Travolta to make Jackman do what he wanted. Travolta didn't actually kill any hostages directly himself, (though he did put them in that situation, he is by no means Mr. Innocent) - had the police done what he asked, no one would have been hurt at all. So basically, he IS a good guy, but his methods are somewhat morally lacking.

Grumpy Scot

Answer: He works for a part of the government involved in counter terrorism. Basically, his group commits terror attacks in any country which commits acts of terror against Americans. So, as Gabriel says in the film, if a country shoots ten American tourists, Gabriel's gang blow up a city, in order to discourage terrorists from targeting the USA again in the future. So in answer, he is a government agent.

Question: What is the meaning behind the password at the end of the credits?

Answer: The password is what was used to access the movie's website when it came out.

T Poston

Question: When Ginger lies to Stan about being an undercover agent, why does she say she's with the DEA of all things, as opposed to the FBI, NSA, or even ATF? Unless I'm misremembering, I don't think the movie makes any mention of Gabriel being involved in drug trafficking.

Phaneron

Chosen answer: Because the money they're stealing is the DEA's. Operation Swordfish was the DEA setting up dummy corporations to launder drug money. When the operation was ended, $400M was left and earned interest, making it worth billions.

Bishop73

Factual error: At the end of movie, the TV speaker says US Embassy in Istanbul was bombed by terrorists. US does not have an embassy in Istanbul, Turkey, but has a consulate. Embassies are located in the Capital, i.e. Ankara. (01:49:45)

Ginger: If you want a chance in hell at getting your daughter back, you better listen up. Unless of course, you want to stay here, in this loser existence, while your daughter grows up to be the fluffer in her daddy's new videos.
Stanley Jobson: Please pay me the courtesy of not confusing your own childhood with my daughter's.
