Insidious: The Last Key

The movie begins in 1953, as a young Elise lives with her abusive father Gerald, who works as a prison guard at the nearby Briarcliff Penitentiary. Elise discovers her psychic abilities and accidentally opens a portal to the spirit world known as the Further, which allows a demonic entity to enter their house.

In the present day, Elise receives a phone call from a man named Ted Garza, who claims that his house is haunted. Ted reveals that he is living in Elise's childhood home, prompting her to reluctantly return to Five Keys, New Mexico. Elise is joined by her assistants, Specs and Tucker, as they investigate the case. Upon arriving, Elise experiences several paranormal occurrences, including nightmares and encounters with malevolent spirits.

While exploring the house, Elise discovers a hidden underground bunker where her father tortured her for her psychic abilities. She confronts the spirit of her dead mother, Audrey, who warns her about a demon named KeyFace. Elise also finds a whistle, which she had used as a child to communicate with her mother. As they continue their investigation, Elise and her team discover that KeyFace preys on people with exceptional psychic abilities, imprisoning them in the Further.

Elise and her team meet Melissa, a young woman living in the house who also possesses psychic abilities. They learn that Melissa's abusive father, Gerald, had locked away her powers. They eventually find Gerald chained up in the basement, possessed by KeyFace. Elise decides to confront KeyFace in the Further one final time to save Melissa and confront her past trauma.

Elise enters the Further, accompanied by Tucker and Specs. They encounter numerous tortured spirits, including those affected by Elise's father. Elise manages to exorcise Gerald's spirit, freeing him from KeyFace's control. Meanwhile, KeyFace captures Melissa and plans to use her powers for his own nefarious purposes. Elise confronts KeyFace, using her psychic abilities to trap him in the whistle.

Back in the real world, Elise, Tucker, and Specs free Melissa and release the spirits trapped in the house. Elise decides to officially retire from ghost hunting, passing her whistle to Melissa, encouraging her to embrace her psychic abilities. The movie ends with Elise making amends with Audrey's spirit, finally finding closure with her traumatic past.

Other mistake: At the end of the movie Lorraine has to remind Elise that she helped her once, implying they haven't seen, or spoken since. When Elise first meets Josh in the 1st insidious she tells Josh that her and Lorraine have been friends for a long time, implying they talk or see each other regularly.

Suggested correction: That's debatable as the word "friend" does have to do with semantics. I have friends I have not spoken to in a long time, or speak with rarely, but still consider them friends due to our history. Others would say that's not a friend as that's not what they think of when they hear the word "friend." So it does depend on the individual person. It's also quite possible this is what they told Josh as the cover story for why she was contacted since they initially didn't want him to remember his past.

Trivia: The town in which the film takes place is briefly mentioned to be called "Five Keys." Which is a bit interesting, as the villain is a demon who has keys emitting from his finger tips, thus literally having "five keys" per hand.
