Factual error: The depiction of lasers is completely off in the movie. While surgical laser is indeed a real thing, such a highly concentrated beam with enormous cutting power seen in the film would take industrial size instruments and an extremely high power supply. Also, a laser beam simply doesn't look that way. Those scenes are way off into science fiction for an otherwise raw and realistic-looking thriller.

Plot hole: An order is given for the body of John Kramer to be exhumed. Surely the police would have noticed someone had dug the grave up in the last few hours (days at a push) as Logan had to get Munsen's body into John's casket.
Trivia: The producers have stated that "Jigsaw" was created as they wanted to bring the "Saw" series back, and they wanted to gauge audience interest in more films. When the film became a hit - earning about $100 million worldwide against a relatively tiny $10 million budget - a ninth film was announced, with a tenth also possible.

Answer: Spoilers: As revealed at the end, Halloran is a crooked cop who has a past connection to Edgar. Edgar therefore wanted him there, since he presumably assumed Halloran could help him out of this jam. It's also possible that Edgar's tape instructed him to find Halloran, but we can't know this for certain, since it wasn't on-screen.
