The Maze Runner

Question: In the beginning, Thomas wakes up in the Box which is moving up. He discovers an animal in the cage. It looks like a black pig. The pig apparently isn't shown anymore in the rest of the movie. Why the hell is the black pig in the Box?

Bunch

Chosen answer: It is just part of the supplies that is sent up each month, along with a new boy. Everything the maze residents have has been supplied to them. That includes rudimentary tools, vegetable seeds, food, and various other supplies and equipment. The pig is just livestock that will likely be butchered for meat.

Question: At the end of the movie, survivors of the group that entered the maze reach the lab, barely making it through alive and having used a code that only an experienced maze runner would know. How did Gally arrive only moments after them, when he had elected to stay behind in the Glade at the time the group entered the maze?

BF

Chosen answer: As it turns out, Gally was being mind-controlled by the people who operated the maze. This would explain why he was highly against any form of escape plan. When the others escaped, the operators gave him some form of safe passage straight to the control room.so he could kill the others. Best guess is, they re-activated the elevator for him and he took that route...but that's left ambiguous.

Gavin Jackson

Question: How did Thomas manage to get into the elevator at the start of the film?

Answer: Thomas was placed there by the lab workers at W.I.C.K.E.D. Boys were being sent up once a month in it as part of an experiment. Thomas, however, works for W.I.C.K.E.D. Although his memory was wiped like the other boys, he, and also the girl, knowingly took part in the experiment in order to change the conditions of the test.

Question: I still don't fully understand why W.C.K.D would entrap the kids in the maze. Is it because they were testing them for survival or something? And why was the girl the 'last one ever'?

Dra9onBorn117

Chosen answer: Because the film is based on the book series, the exact purpose of why the boys were kept in the maze has not been fully explained yet other than it is an experiment. There has been a pandemic viral outbreak that the boys appeared to have somehow survived and now are being tested. Why the girl was the "last one" has also not been explained, though she and Thomas are somehow connected to those who are responsible for running the experiment. At the end, the woman scientist says that the experiment has been a success and Phase 2 is about to begin, so more answers will be revealed in the second film. To avoid giving away the entire plot, I suggest reading the book series synopsis on Wikipedia.

Question: Ben has been stung when he was in the forest trying to kill Thomas. How did he get stung? Did a griever come from the maze into the forest? And why was it significant that he got stung during the day?

Answer: Ben was a runner and he was stung by a griever while he and the other runners were exploring the maze, as they did every day, looking for a way out. The maze was always safe as long it was occupied during the daytime. At night, the gates automatically closed, protecting the glade while the grievers roamed the maze's passageways. Anyone caught in the maze at night would be killed. It is significant that Ben was stung during the day because it showed that the stability of the maze, the glade, and the system the boys had been living with was changing in an unexpected and ominous way.

Video

Continuity mistake: After Minho and Thomas escape from the blades of Section 7, they are crawling through a small passage with the ceiling coming down on them slowly. In one shot, the ceiling is touching Thomas' back. But in the next shot as they get out, he still has a few inches of clearance.

Ava Paige: I am sure by now you all must be very confused. Angry, frightened. I can only assure you that everything that's happened to you, everything we've done to you, it was all done for a reason.
