Continuity mistake: When Richard Gere's attorney tries to get into the murder scene apartment, the guard says to her (in subtitles) "if you mess up the murder scence [sic] you will be in some trouble". There is a typo in the subtitles.
Revealing mistake: When Gere is trapped in the police car and the assassin attempts to shoot him, he fires several shots into the window at Gere's head and every single shot misses yet they do not strike his lawyer or the other window. Where exactly did the bullets go?
Suggested correction: They do hit the window. You can see the bullet holes in the glass from a later camera angle.
Revealing mistake: At the end of the movie when Jack Moore (Gere) is leaving China and is at the airport, you see a plane in the background with an America West logo on its tail. America West doesn't fly into Beijing.
Factual error: Near the end of the trial, Gere is trying to remember what the murdered girl was saying over the phone and only gets out a few words in Chinese, "Wo Men De" which means "Our". His lawyer fills in the entire rest of the sentence with, "Wo Men De Guan Xi Wan Le," which means "Our relationship is over." How could she know exactly what the girl said on the phone, and how could the judge allow her to put words in Richard Gere's mouth?
Factual error: In the court room scene, Bai Ling reads off the phone numbers of Lin Dan's father's cellular phone, but he only reads 6 numbers. After living in China, I know that the phone number system there is composed of 8 numbers minimum; not including area codes.
