Trivia: During the sequence when the new squaddies are kitted out, a large sized cap is placed on James Bailey's head, to which he mutters "Charming." Kenneth Williams ad-libbed this line. Williams was almost out of shot when he delivered the line, and director Gerald Thomas considered re-shooting the sequence, but the gag was brilliantly effective. Thomas thought it would work and wisely left it in.
Trivia: There was great tension between Bernard Kay and William Hartnell, and Hartnell desperately wanted Kay to be fired from the project.
Trivia: The first film in the "Carry On" series. It had not originally been planned as the start of a movie series, but after its success at the box-office, producer Peter Rogers and director Gerald Thomas set about a further project with "Carry On Nurse" (1959), which was enormously successful. The "Carry On" series of films evolved after that.
