Rambo: First Blood Part II

Factual error: Near the beginning of the film, the airplane that will fly Rambo into the jungle is being refueled and prepared for takeoff. Ericson shines his flashlight into one of the jet exhaust ports to inspect it, an impossible task since the jet engines have already been started. Not even Rambo would be able to stand behind a jet exhaust without getting blown over or burnt to a crisp. (00:10:15)

Factual error: When Rambo plays possum then suddenly takes out the Russian officer's Hind Helicopter he uses an M72A2 light anti-tank weapon (LAW). When fired, the M72A2 has a back blast that can kill out to 100 feet, which means he would have either blown up his own helicopter or killed all the MIA's he had rescued...

Factual error: The big red "trigger" switch that Rambo uses to fire the rockets on the Huey is the radio/intercom switch.

Factual error: When the close up of the engine for the plane to drop Rambo off is shown starting up, in the next shot a voice can be heard saying "APU start". The APU starts the engine, so the engine couldn't have been started first.

Factual error: The Russian Hind helicopter is in fact a French-built Aerospatiale Super Puma with attached wings.

Factual error: This aircraft configuration is completely unsuitable for a static line jump. The jumper would sit in the door and wait for the pilot to roll the aircraft to the left, then simply fall away from the aircraft, clearing all structures aft of the exit point.

Factual error: It is completely implausible that Rambo, an experienced green beret would be careless enough to get his gear caught in the plane while jumping out. Also even if he had gotten got, soldiers carry their gear in different layers that are quickly releasable via strap or clip just in case they do get stuck. Rambo would not have gotten stuck, and if he did he could detached his his gear easily and without all the drama.

Suggested correction: Isn't it possible Rambo did this himself so as to get rid of all that useless crap they had given him? He had already stated the mind was the best weapon...why rely on the hi-tech stuff they packed off with him. Not only that but isn't it also plausible that in amongst it could have been a tracking device of some sort, and he didn't want to be tracked?

So your suggestion is Rambo put himself in danger to get rid of unwanted gear when he could have landed with it and then just left what he didn't want behind? This correction is too much of a stretch to considered valid in trying to wish the mistake away.

Factual error: The Russian special forces soldiers arrive in an American made Huey helicopter. Also, the "Hind" helicopter is a European Puma with wings.

Factual error: In the shot where Rambo is blowing up everything in sight from the Huey, there's a quick moment when it is seen from the front. The chopper has two seven tube rocket launchers, and after he fires all the rockets, there are trailing wires on the starboard pod. This is wrong because these launchers, as well as the nineteen tube model, fire 7.65 inch rockets that are electrically primed and fired from a contact pin in the rear, so no external wiring exists. Also, after he fires all the rockets, and therefore has no more, in the next shot, the launchers are loaded again.

Continuity mistake: In the end of the film after Rambo blows up the Russian helicopter, there is a hole in the front window through which Rambo shoots the rocket. In the next few scenes we see Rambo's helicopter and the hole in the window is gone, then it's back again, then it's gone, then it's back again when he lands.

Question: How come in First Blood, Rambo went out of his way to subdue his enemies non-lethally like Batman, but in the sequels he just killed everyone?

MikeH

Chosen answer: Probably because the first film is set in the United States, and Rambo's opponents are non-military, but the sequels are set in Asia and the opponents are "foreign" (mostly Soviet) soldiers.
