Visible crew/equipment: After the death of the Baron, just before the cut to General Director Preysing asking "Where is Miss Flaemm?" the boom mike casts a clear shadow on Lionel Barrymore's chest.
Continuity mistake: When the Baron is dead and Mr. Kringelein enters in the room, he kneels by him and says a few lines about him looking peaceful. His left arm is on the chair in a position different from the shot before and after, where the hand is at the end of the armrest.
Dr. Otternschlag: And what do you do in the Grand Hotel? Eat. Sleep. Loaf around. Flirt a little, dance a little. A hundred doors leading to one hall. No one knows anything about the person next to them. And when you leave, someone occupies your room, lies in your bed... that's the end.
Trivia: "Grand Hotel" is the only film to have won the Academy Award for Best Picture without being nominated in any other category.
