Character mistake: Dumplin' is looking through her aunt's belongings, and finds an old application form for the Miss Teen Bluebonnet pageant. The application has an August 1993 signature but marks Lucy's DOB as 5/5/79 with a stated age of 16: it does not add up, as she'd have been 14 instead. Granted, it's an application she never actually turned in and not an official document, but this does not justify the mistake in the context of the movie (not to mention that had she just been too young to participate, the point of the movie would be moot).
Continuity mistake: When Roberta comes over to give Mark the doll he left at the shop, we see an animated sequence just before this. The character in the animated sequence gets her top ripped open. In the real life version, the doll has more of its shirt ripped open.
Factual error: Right at the start of the film, it shows the girls going up for the first day of school which would have been around Fall. It shows tulips blooming in the garden, but tulips only bloom during the spring. (00:00:55)
Other mistake: Daphne's dad drops the Legitimate Tulip badge in front of her so she'll avoid getting hurt, but when we see him do that, he does it before the warning for the ball is heard and seemingly not looking at the danger (especially in the second shot, when he is peeking from the corner). Factual error: In the bar scene there is a sign for Genesee beer. That brand never went west further than Pennsylvania.
Factual error: Max could not have been accidentally shot when Annie drops the revolver. She dropped it when she was startled by firing it into the ceiling so the hammer would still be sitting on the spent/empty shell casing. The trigger or hammer must be pulled back in order for the cylinder of a revolver to rotate to the next live chamber.
Continuity mistake: Deanna is playing racquetball with her friend when she hits her in the lady parts with the ball. The two sit down by the wall; look at the bottle Melissa McCarthy is holding; it's practically empty, but in the closer angle when she sobs "What am I doing?" it is almost completely refilled. Continuity mistake: After Willoughby wrapped a necktie around Don's wrist and crossed the ends to hold it together, it fell apart when Don lowered his arm. But the necktie was securely wrapped when the camera shifted to showing Don putting his arm around Willoughby's back. (01:36:40)
Continuity mistake: When the police knocks at the door of Simon's trailer, Jean-Hugues Anglade 's arm changes position between shots as he talks to his daughter.
Continuity mistake: Violet's mom is hot combing her hair at 5 AM; as she performs this operation on the left side, the right side has straight black hair all in front of the shoulder. When Violet tells her that dad is coming, she moves to the right side. Sanaa Lathan's hair now is suddenly all behind the shoulder. (00:05:20)
