Factual error: When New York is destroyed by the fireball, the Times Square giant TV (& other electrical items) is still on (although no picture - just static), but the super-flare would cause electrical items to overload before the main fireball hit, almost like an EMP.

Factual error: After the chase scene through the desert and arriving at the abandoned old house, the children hand the taxi driver all of the money they received from the ATM earlier in the movie. When the taxi driver examines the money, it is all hundred dollar bills. No ATM in Las Vegas, Nevada dispenses hundred dollar bills.

Factual error: Even if the bullets were full metal jackets, the passing through Calvini's head and then the wooden column would deform them so the exit hole would be larger than the entry hole.

Factual error: In several scenes, characters drink 'Scotch Whiskey' from a bottle with a label that is obviously something the props department created. That's how it's spelled on the label, 'Scotch Whiskey'. The problem is, if it's Scotch, it's spelled 'WHISKY' (without the 'e').

Factual error: The Book of Mirrors is a rare medieval manuscript, yet Casey has no problem whatsoever in bringing the book to Rabbi Sendak. No library would lease such a valuable item and stealing it would also be rather difficult, as you are supposed to deposit a document and fill out a request form before you are permitted to consult any similar manuscript in any European or American library (if you are allowed at all to do so without a research permit).

Factual error: When the elevator falls to the ground it passes a hotel waitress and blows her hair and pieces from her trolley away. In fact the wind gust comes after the elevator has passed, in reality it would come before it passed, as the air ahead of the elevator would be compressed and blown outwards, leaving lower pressure behind which would cause a gust inwards.

Factual error: Despite the film building to a climax during a total solar eclipse, which requires a New Moon, the film constantly shows a Full Moon, which never changes phase over the weeks the film takes place.

Factual error: During one of Blomkvist's flashbacks to his childhood with his babysitter (about 40 years ago), he is wearing Lightning McQueen shoes.

Factual error: When Sylvia Ganush attacked Christine in the parking garage, because of the other cars being struck the local police would have conducted a thorough investigation including violent assault and attempted murder. They would have taped off and made spray paint marks, reviewed and photocopied the bank's surveillance footage and interviewed both Ganush and Christine. Plus, when Christine went to Mrs. Ganush's house to ask for forgiveness she is met by Ilenka. The local police would have had the household under investigation for assault and attempted murder, the two additional cars damaged would have been taped off as a crime scene, photographed and possibly checked for fingerprints along with any probable surveillance footage. The situation would have hindered Christine's ability to be at the residence to, and threatened by Ilenka.

Factual error: In the scenes on Mars, two spherical moons can be seen in the background. However, in reality, the moons of Mars (Phobos & Deimos) are not spherical. Also they are so small, that they would only appear as moving dots in the night sky, not spheres like Earth's moon.

Factual error: In the beginning of the movie after the 1st murders, when the detective is talking, he states that Grady's/David's car was bought with cash, and the purchase is untraceable because no ID is required, this is not true. A valid picture ID or drivers license is required in order to register the vehicle. Whether it is a fake ID or not, a person has to come up with some sort of ID in order to register a car. Otherwise people would just keep re-registering their vehicles under false names instead of paying parking tickets.

Factual error: During the hometree bombing, the "sky people" throw gas grenades at the N'avi. It's a cool tactic but because of the helicopter blades rotating right above them, the gas would just get blown away therefore making it a useless thing to use in the war.

Factual error: The license plate on the sheriff's car when he arrives at the factory is 5Q49926. In California - where the film seems to take place - that is a "Commercial" license plate issued to trucks and commercial vehicles, but law enforcement are issued "Exempt" plates which are 7 numbers.

Factual error: Some of the scenes show trees without leaves which is correct, but several of the scenes have Myers walking through fields of crops (probably beans) in Illinois, and the trees look full, neither which could be true in late October, as the crops would be harvested or wilted by then, and the trees bare.

Factual error: As Sarah is being chased toward the mine by "Harry" she is unable to open a door and is trapped as Harry approaches. The shadow of Harry cast on the wall gets bigger as he gets closer to her. If Harry were walking in front of the light source casting his shadow, his shadow would get smaller as he walked further away from the light source and closer to Sarah. (01:40:00 - 01:41:30)

Factual error: If, as the film proposes, all plant life is dead, then human life would have soon followed it. Since plants filter carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, then a lack of plants would allow for the increase of that CO2. And since the the unknown disaster appears to have been the result of a super volcano, the additional CO2 would be accompanied by the gases from the volcano making the atmosphere even more toxic.

Factual error: The scene where Princess and Steven are in Chrome Skull's truck, they are trying to dial 911. They are denied access because the phone is password protected. This would never happen. Even though there is a lock on the phone, it would be automatically deactivated for 911 calls. When you lock your cell phone to protect it from unwanted usage, the phone will deny all usage EXCEPT 911 calls.

Factual error: Almost all the semi-tractor trailers on the Interstate passing by are from the 2000s, not 1995, the timeline of the movie.

Factual error: It seems unlikely Zoe could take a knife to the head which pierced her brain and lived without consequences. She would've probably died or have a permanent injury like frontal lobe epilepsy.

Factual error: The part of the movie where they have had the morning updates at the police station, Richard Gere later walks on the sidewalk and stares deliberately at a pair of Muslims praying. The sun is shining on the backs of the Muslims heads indicating that they are facing west even though Mecca would be off to a much more easterly direction from Brooklyn.
