Factual error: The creature Jess catches in the greenhouse is a Common Brushtail Possum, which is only found in New Zealand and Australia. Though the film was shot in New Zealand, it is supposed to be set in Lark Creek, Virginia, a rural area in the southern part of the United States.
Factual error: Right after Walter has the nightmare about killing his wife, he wakes up and turns around to see the alarm clock show 11:12. The clock makes a flipping sound when it switches to the next minute, just like those alarm clocks from the 1980s that have those little numbered plastic cards inside. However, it's a digital alarm clock and they do not make such sounds.
Factual error: When the Chipmunks are going on tour and all of the cities are listed, it says that they're going to "Phoenix - NV" however it's clear they are in Arizona not Nevada, so it should have said "Phoenix - AZ." (01:02:40)
Factual error: When the sheriff's son and the girl are sitting shivering in the rain, she indicates that she is hungry enough to eat an entire Hometown Buffet. There are no Hometown Buffets in the states of Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire. They are called Old Country Buffets there.
Factual error: The second part of the movie is supposed to be located near Lebanon, TN, however, it is fairly obvious the terrain is Southern California. I realize that movie companies often use different locations to film than what they really are, but the landscape between CA and TN is vastly different.
Factual error: When the two nuns strip to join Lorenzo in the bathtub, they both have bikini tan lines, hardly an everyday occurrence during the 14th century.
Factual error: At the scene in the church, there are lots of security personnel standing around wearing steel helmets. The helmet type seems to be an East German M56 helmet (standard for the East German Armed forces until reunification). There is no reason why a Russian security force would have the M56 helmet. (Only if the makers of the movie where able to purchase a lot cheaply :).)
Factual error: During the scene where Captian Less finds out his father was sent to Auschwitz by Eichmann, one of the maps on the wall displays a map of Europe. The map, however, is incorrect, and is a modern day map as opposed to how a map would have looked in 1961. At the time, the Czech Republic and Slovakia didn't exist as separate entities, Germany was not unified, Yugoslavia was yet to dissolve and Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Moldova would not have appeared as separate states. (00:43:45 - 00:45:35)
Factual error: Throughout the scene where Toyman is holding a school bus full of children hostage, the sides of the bus are shown several times. In no shot does the bus ever have a bus number or a stop sign on the side. It is required by law in the US that school buses have the stop sign on them that extends out to stop traffic when children are exiting. And all school buses do have numbers if they are in use for identification purposes. (00:35:20 - 00:37:40)
Factual error: This movie takes place in Seattle. However, when Jack gets his car and drives out of his office you can see a Bell Canada building.
Factual error: In the movie, highway signs for Route 24 show the number inside a sunflower, which designates it as a Kansas state route. But in fact, the Route 24 that passes through the Kansas City Metro area, where the film takes place, is a U.S. route and would show the number inside a shield.
Factual error: The movie is set in Philadelphia, but the bus at the beginning crashes at a crossroad in front of the fast food joint Admiral Submarine, a recognizable location in Brantford, Ontario, where the movie was shot. (00:05:00)
Factual error: In the control room, the TV monitors show Vinnie Jones face against a background of the British flag. It is upside-down.
Factual error: When they are trying to escape by helicopter 2 fighters pop-up and shoot with their machine-guns on the snakes head but when you see close up its raining bullets on their heads while those 2 planes are floating next to the building not above it.
Factual error: When the wraiths first invade the stockade, one of the officers orders his men to fire their "rifles". This is the 16th century. They're firing muskets.
Factual error: After Carlton Leach and his friends have been tricked by the kids, a huge fight starts, and police arrive to break it up, a Ford Sierra is seen in the background. The fight is set in 1982, but the model shown is from the early 1990's - impossible for 1982.
Factual error: Several mistakes about the clock in Jigsaw's workshop: around 300 years ago the first pendulum clocks were built. They were completely different by size and design than this one, so the claim that it is so old is completely wrong. Real pendulum clocks like the one seen in the movie never have a second hand from center. You can also see by the movement of the second hand that it is a modern, battery operated quartz movement. This also means that the ticking you hear is not created by the clock itself but was added later. (00:38:40)
Factual error: This 2007 film, set in 2001, shows several items which didn't exist back then (the first three began circulating in 2002), namely: euro banknotes; 20 Brazilian real banknotes; a version of McAfee VirusScan above 7.0; and a cell phone which, if I've correctly identified it, is Gradiente's GF-690 model, available from 2005. It's the one which belongs to Camila's friend Mari.
Factual error: In the scene where the angry mob is attacking the Simpsons in the tree house, Grandpa Simpson is shown aiming a double-barrel shotgun, which he then pumps to ready it for firing. There's no such thing as a double-barrel pump-action shotgun. (00:36:20)
Factual error: The Motorola RAZR's SMS beep only happens in a very long interval - not like the one in the restaurant scene, where it was virtually just like a ringtone. Even given the possibility that it's a custom tone, the RAZR doesn't ring that long between beeps.
