Factual error: Throughout the movie, as the train speeds through the starry night, the constellation Orion is recognizable (presumably rising) on the horizon. Oddly, Orion never rises any higher as the night progresses. Also, at the latitude of the southern U.S., the constellation would not rise (or set) vertically as shown but would be tipped at a considerable angle.
Other mistake: When the zombies come out of the river and start marching, look closely. The first zombies to come out wear wet clothes, but the ones in the back are dry.
Factual error: In the first scene at the Pentagon, the sergeant tells the other officer that all satellites are being put into geosynchronous orbit to "hide them behind the planet." But objects in geosynchronous orbit don't remain hidden behind the Earth relative to the sun; they orbit once a day, remaining over a particular longitude on earth. Therefore, they would be subjected to the magnetic storms every day, during daylight at that longitude.
Factual error: In order to be electrocuted you need to connect a high voltage to a low voltage. Touching a power line does not get you electrocuted unless you make contact with the ground. So electrocuting the locusts by making them fly against a powerline can not work because they are not 'grounded'.
Revealing mistake: When the president is thrown out of the window by Carpathia, it is obviously just a CG shot. Not only is the president obviously CG, but the glass from the window breaks into neat little triangles. Right.
Continuity mistake: During the final rave scenes, just before the group enters the rave, Jenny is given a regular sized revolver. When she finally shoots Jeremy in the head, the revolver she takes from her pocket is much smaller than the one she was given.
Continuity mistake: Stitch, toward the end of the movie, scratches Lilo on her face just before he runs away to try to leave the planet. Lilo goes on stage to do her song and the scratches to her face are now gone.
Continuity mistake: Julian and Becky get to school and see one of their friends sparring a bit. His ex Katie arrives and he tries to kiss her. She pushes him away and then grabs again the strap of her bag, but at the cut she is not holding it anymore. (00:11:50)
Factual error: Loosely based on the novel by Jules Verne, the entire story takes place on a remote Pacific island in the early 1860s. However, as pirates come under attack by a sea monster (in the second half of this two-part film), a modern fishing trawler or tugboat appears momentarily on the far right of the screen. (00:59:05)
Continuity mistake: Major Kang Min-gil in the opening meeting stands up and mentions the meeting when both North and South Korea agreed to build a nuke. The female scientist in the wide shot is leaning with her chin on the back of her hand in the wide angle, but at the mid-sentence cut she has the palm of her hand along her cheek. (00:04:35)
