Deliberate mistake: As Christine approaches the Phantom in his lair (just after he has abducted her), we see that she is wearing very dark black eye-shadow. Back in the dressing room after coming off stage, as she talks to Raoul, we saw her face in close up and she was not wearing any eye-shadow at all, even though the Phantom leads her through the mirror just after she has managed to slip on a robe over her undergarments and she has not yet changed to go out to supper (Raoul says she is to be ready in 2 minutes). Her hair becomes 'bigger' and wilder, too. The change in her appearance is a reference to her descending (voluntarily, I might add - he didn't drag her through that mirror) into the Phantom's dark existence and to her sexual awakening. Deliberate mistake: Laser beams are normally not visible, except for a small dot where they hit a surface. Even if made visible, using smoke or dust or special glasses, they are thin as threads. Obviously something more visual was needed for Toulour's dance act, hence the thick beams of light.
Deliberate mistake: Polly's and Sky Captain's clothes are discarded because they are contaminated with uranium; however, Polly gets to keep her camera. Her camera would have been contaminated with uranium, too, because she had it with her in the underground cave.
Deliberate mistake: When Denzel Washington is in the bathroom, he discovers the camera monitoring him from the air vent, by seeing the light on the front of the camera. Any spy with common sense would not install a hidden camera with a light on it.
Deliberate mistake: In the scene near the beginning of the movie where Ben finds the pipe and finds the message by rolling the pipe on the paper, the message is long and has symbols, but it is impossible for all of that to fit in the pipe. (00:12:00)
Deliberate mistake: When Lazlo is hiding the dollar bill in the painting, look closely and you will see the scene is played backwards. Ashes from his cigarette flies back up and smoke from the cigarette comes down. (00:22:35)
Deliberate mistake: When Blade Abigail and Hannibal go to visit Dr Vance, Drake grabs Hannibal they move to a window, if you look behind them, the window is closed, then when Drake stabs Hannibal the window is open, then after drake goes out the window, you hear the window smash, even though he went out an open window. (00:56:15)
Deliberate mistake: Slavo and Dragan are supposed to be Serbians but they speak Romanian.
Deliberate mistake: When Dwight Yoakum is being shot by Rita, and he is holding Lew, you can plainly see Lew has earplugs in to muffle the gunshot.
Deliberate mistake: The nose pieces on the face masks have been removed from all of the SCBAs used in the movie. The nose pieces are essential to keep the mask from fogging up, but were removed to allow the audience to see all of the actors' faces.
Deliberate mistake: In the last shot of the movie, Alan Hackman looks at himself in a mirror through his own eyes. But when he looks away and runs off, the camera keeps watching the empty mirror in stead of watching what he sees. (01:26:25)
Deliberate mistake: In the Spanish version, the headlines of the newspapers are in Spanish, but the rest of the articles are in English. It helps supports the narration, but it causes a very weird effect.
Deliberate mistake: When the Neski file exchange takes place in the beginning, the Russian says "You can see who stole the money" and the camera shows the Russian documents. The documents (written in Russian), are in fact, a "Journal of Military Activity of Russian Army in April 1945." It is completely bogus and have nothing to do with the film. (00:07:15)
Deliberate mistake: In the first sequence, you see a man riding on the wooden battering-ram, and you can see where two different shots of the same man were spliced together, as the background suddenly shifts from being a forest, to being the exterior of the town, where the stone wall is. It was meant to be one single shot, but you can just see how the trick works. (00:00:30)
Deliberate mistake: When Saint is being dragged through the parking lot with all the exploding cars, there are a few shots where it is obviously just a dummy instead of John Travolta (the actor who played Saint).
Deliberate mistake: Perhaps to avoid getting an R rating or parental complaints notice how in the operating room massacre none of the doctors appear to bleed nor do Doc Ock's tentacles have blood on them.
Suggested correction: The problem is in both versions of the film, basically all of the deaths either happen off-camera, or are things like people being shocked to death or killed by being tossed around and presumably having their backs/necks broken. Most of the deaths would be bloodless or near-bloodless anyways, and the camera simply doesn't linger on the bodies enough to show any blood. This is also why the tentacles aren't really bloody. Sure, it was probably ratings-related, but it isn't technically a mistake.
Suggested correction: Talour would need to see the beams in order to get through. I would attest that he let off a low grade smoke canister with a fine mist like a concert hazer to make the beams visible yet not trip a smoke fire detector.
