Trivia: The scene near the end of the film where the bad guy kills all of the Galaxy Quest crew is very similar to a scene in the '70s British sci-fi TV show Blake's 7. In that scene, the crew are shot one by one in the same fashion as in this scene.

Trivia: The termination code for Seth is "NCC170182461VIR" - whoever came up with that probably also likes "Star Trek" since the USS Enterprise's registration number reads 'NCC-1701'. That the following numbers add to 10 in pairs of two (8 2 and 4 6) while 'VIR' is the Latin word for 'man' (which 99% of the film's cast are) might simply be a coincidence - but then, perhaps not... Trivia: Ray Walston, who plays Nineenert, played the original Uncle Martin in the TV show "My Favorite Martian." In the movie he says his antennae are always giving him problems and everything is in black and white and that his gum had lost its flavor in '66. The original TV show was in black and white and its final season was in 1966.

Trivia: The film's release was greatly impacted by the Columbine tragedy. It was unfortunately scheduled to come out only 10 days after the shooting, and as a result many theaters refused to screen it due to it involving teens and violence. Additionally, several politicians (unfairly) criticized the film immediately after the shooting, earning it a lot of bad publicity. The studio quietly canceled the premiere and dumped it in theaters, where it bombed. It later found a cult audience on home video.
