Continuity mistake: Near the beginning of the film, Keanu Reeves gives Victoria a fake wedding ring from one of the chocolates. Previously, you can see that he is wearing his real one. When he puts another ring from the chocolate on his own finger, his original one is gone.
Continuity mistake: Toward the end of the film, Elinor is gardening and has dirt and mud all over her hands. Upon realising Edward is riding toward the house, she hurriedly wipes her hands on her apron, smearing a good amount of dirt on it. When she then removes the apron while standing inside the house, both the apron and her hands are barely dirty.
Continuity mistake: When Samuel and Rebecca wake up in bed at Sean's house, they pull back the sheets to find Gail and Marty's little girl hidden under the sheets. When they pull them back she is seen facing the headboard and she screams when they do. The camera angle changes to a side view and as her parents walk into the room, she is seen now facing the door.
Factual error: Not only is the tractor the wrong vintage, it is pulling a round baler that wasn't invented until the 1970's.
Factual error: At the ball, in 1957, they play Eddie Cochran's "C'Mon Everybody" which wasn't written until 1958.
Continuity mistake: When Greg Kinnear is punching Harrison Ford he hits FordĀ“s shoulder, but Harrison Ford is taking his hand up to his face like he was being hit there.
Continuity mistake: In the tournament at the end, the other people on horses that are competing don't even try to knock them off their horses.
Continuity mistake: Early in the movie when Thomas falls overboard, John Smith ties a rope around his waist (00:02:56) and jumps in after him. Thomas is very far away from the ship (00:03:12). But when the men pull John and Thomas up, John is holding on to the rope with one hand and the end is left dangling (00:03:36). One of the men who pulled them up then coils the rope with a mere two coils (00:03:48), not nearly long enough to have reached Thomas while he was overboard. In the same scene, when we are viewing the men pulling John and Thomas up from above (00:03:38) there is no extra rope at their feet as there should have been for such a long rope.
Continuity mistake: Chris O'Donnell and Drew Barrymore are leaving the small town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and they show the outskirts of the town as White Sands, when actually White Sands, New Mexico is about 2 hours away.
Continuity mistake: When Jimmy The Saint brings the cop to the "Man With The Plan" he starts yelling and one of the henchman raises his hand to Jimmy to stay calm and then he puts his hand down. The camera angle changes to a shot from the back and the henchman still has his hand up and Jimmy is saying his next line.
Other mistake: In the scene around the camp fire, Rob Roy can be clearly seen with with plasters on his hand.
Continuity mistake: When Max is running out of the school after successfully becoming cool. We see his friend with the orange mohawk at least twice. Once hanging from a statue, and another where he's reaching out from a school bus. These two shots are really close together so there is no way that he could have moved that quick.
Continuity mistake: One whole day of the week is missing. The rain begins on Wednesday night, but the narrator has the rain beginning Thursday night. All of Thursday is missing.
Continuity mistake: In the lunchroom when the boy gets tripped, a bunch of the food flies out of the bowl in the slow motion shot. When the bowl lands on Steve Guttenberg's head, it's full of food.
Continuity mistake: When Deja and Malik are at the track talking and stretching, Deja is lying down in one shot then sitting up in the very next.
Factual error: In the movie, it is depicted that Verlaine shoots Rimbaud in the palm; in reality Verlaine shot Rimbaud in the wrist.
Audio problem: On the video version, in the barbecue scene, the band starts playing the slow song. The camera is on Eddie and his daughter and they are dancing. If you look closely, the male singer in the background is shown standing on stage and just holding his guitar and not singing, even though the vocals can be heard. In a later shot, he is actually singing. Still later in the scene, he is shown just standing on stage and not singing.
Factual error: At a very early point in the film, the King says something along the lines of "....and these are your playmates". In the background is a horde of 17th century ladies boating on the Achille Duchenne water parterre at Blenheim Palace. The palace wasn't built until the late 18th century, and the parterre was not designed until 1925.
