Factual error: In the introduction to the movie, set in 2002, a young Adonis has a Naruto: Shippuden poster in his room. Naruto: Shippuden did not premiere until 2007.
Factual error: In the shot of the start of the race at Agua Caliente - some of the horses in the line up are wearing ring head bridles (an Australian stock horse type bridle) - it would be unlikely that these American horses would be racing in such bridles.
Factual error: Alex is racing his bicycle across a bridge over the Detroit River on the way to the stadium. The bridge is the one leading from the Detroit mainland to Belle Isle, an island park, where there is no residential area.
Factual error: In the film, Carter leaves the military with service ribbons. In reality, he was discharged after being court-martialed.
Factual error: When Buddy's owner chases Buddy and Josh, you can clearly see his car is in park.
Factual error: When Steve the Pirate is walking down the street in Vegas and gets hit with a drink, behind the truck you see Binions Horseshoe Casino. Binions is on Fremont street, and that is closed to traffic. (01:02:35)
Factual error: When they are at the Greek restaurant, there is a writing on the wall in Greek. It reads "ΚΑΤΣΟ ΝΑ ΣΚΑΣΟ" but the correct spelling is "ΚΑΤΣΩ ΝΑ ΣΚΑΣΩ"
Factual error: Just before Michael and Leigh Anne enter the Big and Tall store, they walk past a Georgia Lottery 'PLAY HERE' sign, and several paces later Leigh Anne says, "I have been in Memphis my whole life..." illustrating that it was filmed in Atlanta, GA, not Memphis, TN. (00:32:30)
Factual error: The toy horse on Alec's shelf is a 64 Black Foundation Stallion, available from Breyer between 1977-1987. But the film is set over thirty years earlier.
Factual error: When coach says the insurance requires a physical to play, Juwanna Mann avoided it by dressing in a chicken suit. Later, when the team waits for Juwanna Mann to show up for the playoff game, s/he's allowed to play although she didn't finish taking the physical.
Factual error: The skywriting at the end of the film would have long drifted away by the time it is shown. The pilot has since landed on the road, taken off again and Jack & Ruby have made up, yet it is still in perfect formation.
Factual error: When Dave is "true"ing his wheel, he adjusts one spoke with 3 full turns. That wheel would not be rideable after that much adjustment on one spoke.
Factual error: On the final hole, the shot that Roy "has" to make is hit perfectly the first time. For some unknown reason, it spins backward off the green. This is patently impossible with a 3-wood. The club just doesn't allow it, and any golfer on the face of the earth knows it. This scene should have been shot with a long iron, a 2 or 3 iron, which is still very hard to hit, but at least possible (for a pro) to put enough spin to back it up.
Factual error: When they paint the van with spray paint, look at the box of paint cans, they do not match all the colors on the van, also, there is a smooth shine on the van, but if you just painted it with spray paint it would be rough. Also, if you painted an entire van with spray paint in 10 seconds it would not have anytime to dry, but when you look at the van it is perfectly dry.
Factual error: When Jess arrives late at the final match, she is brought on as a substitute. Yet, the referee should know about the possible substitutes before they are brought on - he didn't even know about Jess. Jess said she wouldn't be able to make the match due to her sister's wedding. Therefore, she would have been removed from the team line-up.
Factual error: Bo Callahan is described by an interviewer as the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner. However, the film portrays the 2014 NFL Draft (albeit a fictional version of it). The Heisman Trophy is awarded in December and the winner is always linked with the year of the season that was just played (excluding bowl games). The NFL Draft takes place in late April or early May. Therefore, the 2014 Heisman Trophy wouldn't be awarded for another 7 months. Callahan would have to have been the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner if he's the most recent recipient prior to the 2014 draft.
Factual error: The wrestlers are watching UFC 8 on TV when DuPont comes in and tells Mark to get his brother to join the team. In the next scene, Dave shows up. UFC 8 took place in Feb. 1996, 3 weeks after Dave Schultz was killed. (01:13:07)
Factual error: At the end of the movie, after losing the 1954 Boston marathon, Father Hibbert asks Ralph what his running plans are for the future. Ralph replies that the Olympics are next year and he plans on winning them. The next Olympics were in 1956, not 1955.
Factual error: The scenes set at Wrestlemania XXX (2014) were filmed at a RAW show in 2018 - fans are visible in the background wearing wrestling merchandise more recent than 2014.
Factual error: In more than one scene you can hear the sounds of a steam locomotive chugging and blowing the whistle. Steam locos were almost entirely phased out by the early 60's, and none ran in Philadelphia at the time this movie was made.
