Character mistake: In one episode, John, Meldrick and Tim are called down to their bank because they're getting a business loan to buy the Waterfront Bar (the bank's policy is to give good news in person). They start arguing and Tim announces at one point that "I've got a platinum card, Frank", which is marvelous, except he's talking to Meldrick.
Other mistake: When the guest cast is listed and Jerry Orbach's name appears, Lennie Briscoe's first name is misspelled "Lenny."
Det. Frank Pembleton: Meldrick! In the mood for a multiple homicide?
Det. Meldrick Lewis: On a Friday night? Always.
Trivia: John Munch is the only fictional character played by a single actor to appear on eight different TV series. He was a series regular on Homicide, and crossed over onto "Law & Order", "The X-Files", "The Beat", "Law & Order: Trial By Jury", "Arrested Development", "The Wire", and became a series regular on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit".
