Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc - S1-E2
Continuity mistake: After President Bartlett sits down (while speaking to CJ and the staff) he removes his glasses. The shot then changes to one from his back where he's wearing glasses. When the angle changes to the original, he's not wearing his glasses again. (00:06:30)
A Proportional Response - S1-E3
Continuity mistake: When Leo asks Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Admiral Fitzwallace about the optics of hiring Charlie, a black man, to carry the president's bags, Fitzwallace's ribbons on his Navy uniform are upside-down. This mistake is very visible because he has two ribbons on the bottom when there should always be three. On his way out the door, there is one shot where Fitzwallace's ribbons have been fixed, but then as he walks out the door his ribbons are upside-down again. (00:25:50 - 00:27:10)
A Proportional Response - S1-E3
Continuity mistake: The president is snapping at everyone while looking for his glasses. Newcomer Charlie addresses Bartlet, who turns and takes off CJ's glasses he'd been trying on. Everybody freezes in surprise at Charlie's interruption, including Bartlet who can be seen holding the glasses away from his body. In the immediate next shot, Bartlet can be seen on the monitor still wearing CJ's glasses, and then interrupts Charlie while removing the glasses once more. (00:33:20)
Continuity mistake: When Josh and Leo are discussing Leo's alcoholism Josh refers to Leo as being "Boston Irish-Catholic" but in several other episodes it's mentioned that Leo is from and grew up in Chicago.
He Shall, from Time to Time - S1-E12
Continuity mistake: When Abby kisses Jed as he's falling asleep there is a change in shot perspective; Abby's hand is suddenly on Jed's chest and the bed sheets move at least a foot towards his head. (00:12:00)
Take Out the Trash Day - S1-E13
Continuity mistake: This episode takes place in early 2000. 7 or 8 months before the midterm. When Bartlet tells C.J. to drawer the sex education report until after the midterm she exclaims, "next year?"
Take Out the Trash Day - S1-E13
Continuity mistake: This episode takes place in February or March of 2000. Josh and Donna have worked in the White House for 13-14 months, but in the beginning of the episode Donna is asking Josh what 'take out of the trash day' is, when she has been working in the White House for many, many Fridays.
Let Bartlet Be Bartlet - S1-E19
Continuity mistake: When CJ leaves Toby's office and Josh sits town on the couch next to Toby she closes the door as she walks out and we can hear it close. But the camera switches to a different angle as Josh sits down and the door frame is still in picture and is open as we hear the sound of it closing the door frame is still open. (00:20:40)
Continuity mistake: When Toby is walking back to his office from the press room with his ex-wife, the ex-wife's tag and chain keeps changing through the entire sequence. Sometimes it's over her jacket and the tag's just hanging or it's under the jacket and the tag is sitting just inside her jacket.
What Kind of Day Has It Been? - S1-E22
Continuity mistake: When the shooting starts, CJ is seen being pushed down by a Secret Service agent, and a second later she is seen being pushed down by Sam.
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the episode, while CJ is talking to Sam about getting lost on the way to work, the fishbowl gets turned around mid conversation - the elephant in the fishbowl suddenly faces the other way.
And It's Surely to Their Credit - S2-E5
Continuity mistake: When Ainsley Hayes and Lionel Tribbey are talking in her office, the bottled water moves from being to the right of the framed picture on her desk in the shots over her shoulder to being behind the picture in the shots of her desk from the front. (00:21:40 - 00:22:30)
Continuity mistake: During the beginning before the opening credits, C.J. is briefing the press corps on the bus. In the outside shot of the bus, C.J. has her left arm resting on a rail, towards the door. When the shot changes to inside, C.J. has her right arm on a rail towards the driver. (00:01:15)
Continuity mistake: During Josh's conversation with Congressman Skinner, the beer bottles on Josh's desk change between shots. The labels point different directions, and during one shot the bottles are open, only to be closed again in the next shot. (00:10:00)
Continuity mistake: As Margaret enters Leo's office, the bottom corner of her ID tag is tucked into the sweater's button area. It remains this way when she stops walking. The camera reverses angle for a moment, yet we can still see she isn't moving. But the angle changes back and suddenly the ID hangs freely, dead center, over the buttons. Moments later, as she turns to leave, it's again tucked in. (00:12:10)
Continuity mistake: The President is watching Dial M for Murder with the staff and his daughter Ellie. In the beginning of the scene, the President is sitting behind Ellie and there is no empty chair next to her. Then he leaves the room. When he returns, his chair is suddenly placed next to Ellie.
Suggested correction: There was an empty chair next to her.
The Stackhouse Filibuster - S2-E17
Continuity mistake: When Josh first sits down at his computer, there are about 3 or 4 lines already typed in the email on the screen, but a few seconds later that has almost doubled. Even more inexplicably, when he finally starts 'typing' at about 28:05, he presses about 10-15 keys but two whole paragraphs pop up. This is not due to pasting copied text, as his hands are nowhere near the Control keys. Finally, at about 28:25 when Donna leaves, he turns back to a screen which is now back to the 3-4 lines. A less-detailed version of this has already been submitted, but I believe mine is clearer (and that other one has not been approved). :). (00:27:45)
Continuity mistake: As Jed and Leo pass through a doorway, the left door is open toward the camera while the right door is opened away. But as the camera angle shifts, the left is opened the same as the right. (00:03:25)
Continuity mistake: When Jed yells for the late Mrs. Landingham, and she arrives, shots from behind her show her hair blowing significantly due to the outside door being open to the storm, but shots of her from the front show her hair relatively calm. (00:35:25)
Continuity mistake: Donna and the gang are in a restaurant/bar in New Hampshire and she has her hand up by her head as she eats. As Josh asks "are you eating the rest of the sandwich?" her hand is suddenly at her mouth. (00:32:10)
