Plot hole: In the first episode, Richard Fish invites Ally to join his law firm, saying that he has only recently set it up, yet in the Christmas episode of series one, Elaine says that singing at the party is an annual tradition in the firm and also that they have had at least three Christmas parties. That much time has not passed since Ally joined.

Answer: Answering my own question - it's from S1 E4. "One of the keys to life: the fast-forward. Every movie has its lousy parts; the trick is fast-forward through them. See, as time passes, you look back and say, 'Huh. That little adultery thing. Oh, that.' You fast-forward to then right now... and you're over it."
